• We'd like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Holidays and a very Merry Christmas from all at Golf Monthly. Thank you for sharing your 2025 with us!

What’s the warmest thing you wear?

Hybrid jackets are good or decent warm gilets. Anything else isn’t worth trying to swing in.
Would rather have a thermal layer on underneath than a big baggy jacket

Same as everyone else really, layer up. The only other thing I’d add are the rechargeable hand warmers. My hands do get pretty cold and so I’ll pop one in each mitten.
Someone got me them for last Christmas. I never would've dreamed of buying them myself - but they are actually really good. 😄

I have some fleece lined waterproof trousers which are excellent. Not golf specific, so much cheaper than golf trousers, from mountain warehouse or somewhere similar.

Have some lovely Nike thermal base layers with a fleece lining, they don't seem to make them any more. Also have some Adidas and Nike long sleeve thick mock neck shirts to wear on top of the base layers. Again they don't seem to make these any more.

Exactly what I was wondering about. I’ve waterproof trousers but they’re not lined so I need to wear something underneath. I’ll have a look for a pair. 👍🏼

The zerofit baselayers folk were on about last year on here are the best bit of cold weather clothing I have ever bought..
Even in minus temps I can get away with that, a polo top and at most a thin jumper that would prob get removed after a few holes..
Find it's so much more enjoyable than having so many layers you cannot swing as per usual.
Still need hand warmers from Costco to go in my mitts... I might try the rechargeable ones this time tho..

In terms of sizing for base layers, if you’re a size large in normal clothing, do you just go for a large in base layers? Genuinely question.

Most have size guides, so match that up. I personally go a size down because I like them tight.

How do you find the Castore one? I got my usual size and it's definitely snug around the body more than I thought it would be. I wouldn't have wanted to go down a size, that would have been uncomfortable. I haven't played in it yet, not been cold enough, but I'm interested to see how it feels when I'm moving, swinging a club etc for 4hrs.

Bought two Merino wool sweaters after reading this thread, they arrived Saturday and wore one around the house, was very impressed.

I'm a cold blooded lizard unfortunately, my body stays quite warm but feel it badly in my hands and feet. I've got bridgedale wool socks which are fantastic and just try and keep my core warm, the zerofit top is incredible for that.

I bought one true to size and one down a size. Downsizing is good - the other is baggy and the neck on both is awful - again, too baggy, so won't we wearing them and already in wifey's Vinted.

Soft shell golf trousers as they are also shower and winder proof, UA 1/4 sweater which is fleece lined, normal polo and a snood.

If it’s going to be below 6-8* or lower with a cold wind I’ll either add a gilet or swap the sweater to my ping as it’s therma and a wind breaker also but it’s very rare that’s needed.

I only wear a base layer late autumn when I need something a little warmer than a polo but as I play early it would be with a mid layer which is normally discarded after about 5-6 holes.

Always with my cold gear UA beenie as its wind and shower proof.

Yes, go for your normal size. They are supposed to be skin tight, you don't feel you are wearing them because they are like a second skin. Wearing a larger size would just be like wearing a T-shirt.

The Trepass ones are decent and cheap as chips.
