Wedges!!!

Getting used to my new wedges now. Had all my irons 1 deg stronger so got my Vokey CC's cranked 1 deg too.

47 PW - Chip and runs, 40 - 60 yrd low pitches, 120 - 160? Full Shots.

51.07 GW - Chip and runs, 20 - 60 yrd pitch and runs, 95 - 125 Full Shots.

56.13 SW (Old TP - 9) - Had some trouble with the bunkers a while ago so didn't want to take a chunk out of a new wedge. Not been using it for awhile as only got 1/2 set in the bag @ the mo. Good for bunker play 5 - 25 yrds and heavy rough 60 - 110.

59.03 LW - Soft chips and pitches 1 - 20 yrds, Lob shots 5 - 40 yrds, Full Shots 70 - 95ish. Also use for tight/firm/plugged/compact bunker shots to good effect.

Got the new grooves in the 51 & 59. Wanted to see the difference and always like using what the pros do and haven't noticed a huge amount of difference but the greens are too soft to really tell so far.

Can hit the ball a good distance but not too sure about full wedge distances atm so don't read too much into them. Never really 'Step On' the full shots and often choke down on them to control distance.

PW, 50 degree U wedge and 56 sand iron.

Too many pitching options spoils the score!

Hi,

I have my standard PW (48 degree) 52 and 60. Till this year I had a 56 sand wedge but have decided to ditch this and use the 60 with the intention of buying a hybrid.

I agree with the earlier comment of not using a full swing so my 52 will be the main one for me this year but just differing my swing length.

cheers

Hi

I have a Ping 46* wedge, 52* & 58* Tour Wedges. I don't think many people require 4 wedges? honestly!

I don't think we really need any more than a 58* probably not even more than a 56* most of the time. I use my 52* for most shots that require height from 90-100 yds in and only use the 58* from bunkers and shots that require a lot of height to clear obstacles (Bunkers, trees etc.) For other pitch/chip shots I use whatever club gets the ball onto the green and rolling to the hole, as it is so much less dangerous.

I have 4 wedges 48, 52, 56 and 60. I really have to try and stop myself hitting the Lob Wedge from anywhere other than the awkward shots around the green.

48 came with the irons and I added a 51/6 and a 56/10.

I will use all of them for anything from half to full shots

usually I like my 51 around the greens and play around with the ball position , but if the greens are a bit softer then i'll use the 48.

47 goes 126
52 goes 106
56 goes 90

3/4 swing (hands to shoulder height) takes 10% off
Same swing with open stance takes 15% off
1/2 swing (hands to waist height) takes 40% off

I'm seriously thinking of putting my 60deg back in the bag instead of the hybrid because a) the hybrid is the club I find hardest to hit well and b) my 56 has 14deg bounce and I struggle sometimes off tight lies.

I just have this nagging thought at the back of my head saying "what if you have 220 to the green over an oak tree!" (that can happen on about 4 holes where I play).

Use all of mine for anything from full shots, half shots to short shots around the greens, that includes bunkers. I have my R7 PW, my Vokey 50 is altered to 49, my 52 it’s altered to 53, then my 58. All my wedges give me a nice progression in length. The 58 for standard bunker shots, full on high shots, shut face low stun shots and open face lob shots.

How easy do we make this game.

I have a PW, 52*, 56*, 60*

The PW is mostly for full shots approx 125-130yds.
52* for anything from 115yds'ish inwards.
56* has high bounce, really only used for bunker shots.
60* for flop/lob shots or when I really need to stop it dead, normally used from about 50yds inwards.

I probably don't really need all of those but other than the driver they are what I enjoy hitting the most

Only ever had 3

46 PW,54 SW and 60 LW.

Never worried about hitting any of them from any lie, I just select what I think is the best one for the shot I'm faced with. :D

Have you thought about dropping the 3 iron? Easier to hit a soft hybrid than a hard 3i. I would have thought you'd use the 60 more than the 3i as well.

Big believer in maintaining a 4 degree gap and around 12 yards difference on a full shot. I have.....
58 deg - 75-80 on a full swing,
54 deg - 90-95,
50 deg - 105-110 which nicely brings me up to my 46 deg PW in the set which goes about 120.
I always chip with the 54 if it's straightworward and use the 58 from greenstide bunkers, 54 or even the 50 if there's more ground to cover.
The only "gap" I have left is the 70 yards in which will be either a soft 58 with a 3/4 swing or more usually a punch with a bit of check with the 54. All down to feel at that distance though.

I have a 46 PW, 52 and 58 wedges. In the summer I have been changing to a PW, 52, 56 and 60 line up and dropping the 3 wood as it gives me more options from the longer greenside rough, bunkers and dry hard greens.

Last year had a PW, gap, 56* and a 60*. Decided to change this year as the grooves were worn out, had them a few years. Have gone back to a PW, 54* and 60* Vokeys.
I found that having 4 wedges sometimes got confusing, should i hit a full 56*, a 3/4 gap or a punchy wedge? Now its going to be a bit more getting some feel back about distance control and using my imagination and feel to hit different shots with less clubs, which i enjoy.
Sometimes its a case of too many cooks..............!

Thought about it but I hit the 3 iron far better than the hybrid. The hybrid is just nice for a high flight (when it gets hit well).
When I bought it I thought I'd use it off the tee a fair bit, but I don't trust myself with it when something else will do.
I took the 3 iron off the tee 3 times last round, and although I didn't measure them I reckon from what I had left that I'd hit them 210-220 after the roll.

I've just re-read what I've written above. The hybrid is coming out (not in that way). Can't beleive it's stayed for so long just for the once a round miracle shot that doesn't come off. :D

I've only got two 47 PW and a 54 dumped my 60 months ago now I just open the 54 for lob shots. Hit my 47 110yds and the 54 85yrds anything in between I dial down on my PW.
