So today I pulled the trigger and got some new irons,
Rocketbladez 4-pw
The pw loft is 45 degrees

I will need some wedges and didn't know whether to go for 3 wedges 50,55,60 or as close to it.
or 2 wedges 52,58

I would ideally prefer 2 to keep costs down.
Is this a viable option ?

I love my Ping wedges but like you, I moved to Bladez and it left me a noticeable gap between PW and 52 so I stuck a cranked Gap Wedge in the bag.

Naturally, I have hardly used the thing since I bought it

why are you even looking at 3 wedges? because all the pro's have 3 min?

your PW is a bit lower than most at 45* so ideally a 50* and 56* SW is all you need, trust me.

You can manipulate anything needed inbetween by opening/closing the face or hands ahead etc

I personally only want 2 but didn't know if the gaps would be to large.
I happy to hear two will suffice though.

So 50-56 close enough will do the trick then.

Now to hunt for some good deals.
Thanks guys :)

Personally I'd just go PW (45 degrees) and then two others (52 and 58). I'm not gifted enough to utilise three wedges plus a PW so two are more than sufficient

This is probably the way I'd go too (or 51/57). Depending on the your style, a C or M Grind on the 58 would allow it to be used from both Fairway and Bunker/Long grass

Many Am's see the Pro's with there 4 wedge system, & think that's the way to go. But in my experience unless they are pretty accomplished golfers it can cause a deal more problems with their short games.

The good deal of loft on the 60º (or above) is pretty hard to utilize properly, as to many folks there seems no way, looking at the that face angle looking 'upwards at the sky', that they can feel they can get it on the ball, most don't completely most of the time, because of their swing shape & not enough forward leaning shaft at impact that's needed from the turf.

Many using them in the bunkers, often either leave the ball in just further up the face, or come out a good ways short. Mostly because a lot of 60º's don't have much bounce on them which means you have to be a good ways skillful with only 6º or 8º of bounce from sand, as it will dig some if you're not shallow enough, a lot of folks are a good ways too steep coming into the ball in sand.

Learning to use 3, so using the imagination to produce the different shots will help you produce a good variety of shots to develop your short game.

So as you already have a 45º, going with 52º, 58º would be a useful way to go. A deal of the tour pro's out there use these 'gaps' too, as do I.

That would mean the 58º would be your sand wedge, so would be good to go no lower than 10º of bounce on it, or you might struggle on the sand shots. 8º of bounce on your 52º would be pretty useful from the turf.

Lots of useful info here guys, thanks very much.

I already have a 60 which I was going to discontinue using, I've also seen the matching rocketbladez sw which is 55*
Slightly higher than has been recommended but I could maybe buy that and keep my 60* and save even more money?...

I've got 50 and 56, which I find perfect with my 46 deg pw.

I'd suggest going for the cleveland 588 wedge trade in. They're great.

50° 56° is what I would look at, decent gaps from the PW and the 56° is plenty versatile around the greens. I'd take a look at Cleveland RTX wedges as they are doing a great deal on them at the moment.

Just make sure the distance gaps are what you want and not just equal numerical difference between 45 and 60 degrees.

The people I got the irons off have done me a great deal on the matching sw 55*
I'm not a fan of my 60 so I will scrap that and look to get a 50* approach.
Sorted and they will all match.

Pretty much the route I've gone down, I had 45 pw 50 aw 54 and 60, 54 was never used, 60 out of bunkers usually short, so I went down the 51/57 route and freed up space at the top of my bag where I believe it will be of more use.
I certainly thing 56-58 is plenty of loft for us hackers

My PW is 44 and only had a cheap 64 as my other wedge.

I Was always under the assumption I'd need 3 wedges at least. After a good chat with the retailer about how I play around the greens and watching me hit a variety of approach (and with the knowledge my cheap 64 would be traded in) he recommended just the 52 and 60. Has been perfect and suits my game just fine.
