Not necessarily a "weak" hole, but there must be one that doesn't quite mix it with the others.

The 14th at my club is about 320 yards, pretty straight, no bunkers and the only real hazard is a stream to cross at about 130 yards that shouldn't come into play. There is a ditch to the far right and you've got to really slice it to get there (believe me, I know).
So not a weak hole but one that most will look at as a respite before the last 3 holes - 430yrd par4, 500+ par5, 420yrd par4.

What's yours?

Oi Bro

Leave it out

Thats pretty well my favorite hole

about the only par 4 I normally par (Proper par, not Net)

Note that you regularly end up in the scrub on the left hand side, and yes I know that you then do a fantastic recovery that puts it within 3 ft of the pin for a birdie putt

The 10th (par 3 182 yds) is pretty tame (thats one of the ones I got a 2 on the other week)

It's the 11th for me, not so much a weak hole as just my bogey hole. It's just a long straight tree lined par 3 around 200-220 yards. No real hazards except for the trees which get me every time. I have played it around a dozen times (only joined recently) and had 1 par, infact that was the only time I made the green. Today I took a 4 iron which i'd been hitting beautifully round the first 9, felt so confident but still hit it left into the trees.

8th at Ballater is weak. Short par 4 with a slight dog leg right to left but the bunkers on the corner of the dog leg are too short for anyone who can hit a decent ball so you just aim straight at the green, carry all the trouble and then flick on sand iron or less.
Anything more than par is a disaster!
In the days of persimmon and balata I reckon it would have been a decent golf hole. Hole spoiled by technology but no room to extend the hole unfortunately.

I think our 7th is pretty weak. SI 2 and 398 yards the problem is there is a ditch at around 220 yard and it narrows straight after. Most players hit irons or hybrids short of the ditch and then a mid iron in. The ground in front is pretty hard all year round so the ball will always chase forward. I know a lot of higher handicappers that regularly make four or five at worse for shedloads of points.

The ditch and the narrow landing area just don't make it a viable option to go for it so as supposedly the 2nd hardest hole it just doesn't present too much of a chllenge. Mind you HTL took driver and smashed it over the ditch and left himself about 60 yards to go so it can be done

I'd have to say it is probably our 1st hole.

Straight par 4, plays about 330 yds, slightly downhill, with the 5th fairway to the left if you tug one, and the 2nd fairway to the right if you slice it.

Fairly straightforward and anywhere but right, where you are left with a blind shot into the green, should see you on the green in two, which is then fairly flat, so a two putt for par is quite easy.

We have one hole, the second, that had to be redesigned in the 70's,when some land was sold so the members could buy the course. It is the only non Harry Colt hole, blind teeshot, and whilst not weak,is just not as good as the rest.I would say the rest are something special.

I am now a member of two clubs for the next 3 months so i get two goes at this :)

Swanston:

Can only be the 1st. It slopes severely down from left to right and so any good drive right up the middle no doubt comes to rest in the 1st cut and your second shot is always going to have the ball well below your feet no matter what you do. Best thing to do is aim down the right in the first place and ensure an easier approach shot up to the elevated green which has an even more severe drop off the right hand side.

It really is a good course though and if you can get a good score on the first and second then you can set up a really good round.

West Lothian:

For me, the worst hole is the 8th, known as the coffin. I know a lot of people like it as you have to play for position rather than length, but i think it's only there as a way of getting from one part of the course to the next, rather than because the land provided a great prospect for a hole. It's a par 4 with the first shot no more than a long iron. Second shot is dogleg right and straight up a mighty steep hill to a shallow but wide green that's cut into the hill. Even after a very good 1st shot, the 2nd has more luck that skill about it, especially on a windy day!

Played AP an few times and every time I have played that hole it has been into the teeth of a wind so a seemingly simple drive invaliably ended up with a wide slice or 'steery' hook!. I remember the green has some decent contours to trouble a short approach.

I always thought the 2nd hole was a bit too short for a Par 3 and the Par 3's in general were not particularly interesting.

Haven't played there for a few years mind so things may have changed with the course maturing.

The par 3's are right up there now SHW.
2nd is still short but a pond left, ditch long and trees right have toughened it up.
5th can play 200 yards+ with rubbish all the way left and right and a bunker front right.
8th has a pond front left and mounds to throw the ball off a every angle.
10th is maybe a bit boring but I still bogey it more then par it.
12th is lovely. Short but rubbish every way and a sloping green.
15th mid-length, ditch,rubbish,OB left,trees right.
All decent tests now.
