Walking shoe recommendations

My trusty Berghaus shoes have started to leak( pretty much like slicks too) not surprising given all the walking me and the dogs have done through all the lockdowns.

So after ideas to replace them, ideally something waterproof and an ortholite insole or at least some arch support.

Currently looking at some Salomans at eye watering prices !!

Just replaced my 11 year old boots with these from millets and first impressions are very good. The insole has bugger all support but that doesn't bother me as I'll replace it with a decent one.

I've got a pair of Saloman walking shoes for work and tbh, I'm not hugely impressed - they're "fine" but no more. I certainly won't be rushing out to buy another pair when I'm through them - the replaced a pair of Adidas walking shoes which were half the price and twice the shoe.
 
I live in Karrimor they are my everyday shoes. If you want to go up a bit from the standard my mate (who was a chiropodist) recommended the ones with Vibram soles.

With what they cost compared to a lot I can afford to have lots of pairs.

There are days (when not in lock down) that I am in them all day. A couple of times I have played 9 holes in them because I prefer to walk in them than golf shoes.

Totally agree. Bought a pair of Saloman for general walking, and they're bloody lethal. Fine in the dry but walk on wet surfaces and they're like slick tyres on a wet racetrack. Had a few close calls with slipping and came a cropper on some wet steps whilst out on a walk with the dog a few months back. Fortunately quick reactions with my arms prevented back slapping on the steps!
Avoid Saloman, they're crap!
 
Recently replaced my 13yr old Scarpa’s with another pair of Scarpa.
Fantastic boots.
I went for a pair of the lightweight Mojito. a good all round every day boot.
Also got a pair of Raichle, far more expensive but I much prefer the Scarpa.
Highly recommended ?

Me and the Mrs have both had 3-4 pairs of North Face shoes, think they were called Hedgehog, and they were great. Comfy and waterproof as they are Goretex lined. Lasted ages and stood up to some tough conditions. I currently have some Merrill shoes, similar design and really happy with them. Cost about £100 but get loads of miles out of them
 
My Jack Wolfskin are on their (or my) last legs and have given me 8 years heavy duty service wearing them at least 3 times a week going over all terrains including deep snow,

By the best you can afford and a few have been mentioned. Personally would always get boots that are made with many of the proven waterproof fabrics unless you are going old school leather.

Wife prefers Berghaus as she reckons they are lighter than Jacks.
 
My Berghaus shoes have turned to slicks too over the past 12 months - as I found out during the recent freeze!

Any particular reason why you are looking to change makes? One of the main reasons I bought them was for the excellent support they provide as I had plantar fasciitis at the time, and will almost certainly go back to them.
 
I'd consider Berghaus again, just looking for other options.
Been looking at Skechers today as I find their golf shoes really comfortable.
 
I bought a pair of Ecco goretex walking boots in the sale several years back which have been excellent, bought them having got on so well with their golf shoes and knowing they fit me well

I don't do much trail type walking, but I have a pair of North Face Berkeley waterproof hiking boots for winter wear, They are comfy as comfy can be, straight out of the box
 
Got a pair of Merrell Moab 2 walking shoes. But a bit concerned that there appears to be the incling of a bit of separation of upper from sole of left hand shoe...might be nothing - we'll see. That said I do find them very comfortable and they've been used a lot over the last year.
 
I find walking boots/shoes to be very much down to personal fit, I love my Salomons, while others above slate them, use them in all weathers for long days on the hills except for extreme winter conditions when crampons are required.
 
Love my Solomans so much I have three pairs.
Boots and shoes both waterproof and so comfy after about 6 to 7 years of fairly hard wear. I have lightweight summer trainers as well but usually wear Merrell half sandels when hot.
Be careful you get the right size, I am 9.5 {UK} but wear 10's in Solomons.
 
Had many different brands of walking boots over the years - but from only two have I had more than one pair. Scarpa and Peter Storm. I've found both brands to be robust with
good grip - and as comfortable as carpet slippers.

I've googled the Peter Storm boots and they don't seem too expensive, certainly not in comparison with some of the other suggestions. You are happy with the quality and durability though?
 
Loving my Scarpa Cyrus GTX shoes, a good balance between comfort and support. The grip levels and waterproofness are superbly. If you don’t need a boot style they are great.

I was lucky to get them 30% off due to a shelf labelling error!
