Walking shoe recommendations

I've googled the Peter Storm boots and they don't seem too expensive, certainly not in comparison with some of the other suggestions. You are happy with the quality and durability though?

Yep . Current pair are Peter Storm which I got for £65 - if I remember right, they should have been £110 but they were discounted in an "everything must go" closing down sale.

What are people's opinions of shoes v boots? I'm not a hill walker, flat only where possible, so are boots required? Is ankle support an issue in those circumstances?

Its the tread that really counts and there'splenty of shoes that offer a good tread - after that, its up to you. Personally, I'd always favour a boot over a shoe unless i know the ground is likely to be pretty well flat & even. (I've had a dodgy weak ankle ever since I fell off Ben Nevis some years back).
