I could sit here till the football starts and tell you all about the 2 days but I won't I'll try keep it short and sweet.
Dave and myself took advantage of the Belfry's very generous offer of a nights B&B a game on the Derby, game on PGA and Dinner(or is that tea ) in Atrium for £79
The weather was VERY kind to us and although the fairways were faily wet, it didnt actually rain 1 spot till I was driving home.
Arrived Monday morning, checked in, and pretty much just got straight to it. No chance to warm up or try the putting green which proved a little costly as the Derby greens were alot quicker than we both expected. Some good golf was played by us both and some poor was too. Scoring wasn't great on The Derby but I did manage to pick up a birdie I was very happy with. Not sure what Dave would have picked as his highlight for that course but he certainly has a few to choose from.
Had a nice dinner in the club house afterwards over looking that lovely 18th.
Tuesday we were both up before the birds and got a great breakast inside us, plenty of grease and a healty juice to keep us fueled for the task ahead.
We headed straight for the range to loose up and fine tune. Dave did very very well to cure a little spell of the silly yanks. There was a slight delay of half an hour on our tee time as the green keepers wouldnt release the course whilst the frost was still on, however come 10, Dave and my self led the way and were first out. The PGA I have to say is the best course I have played on to date. A steady round helped me decide that. We managed to film a bit of it as we went and I look forward to seeing it. Again my highlights for the PGA would be a chip in (I described in the chip in thread) and paring the 18th as the perfrect hole. Nice 3 wood, perfect contact down the middle. Easy 7 iron with a nice draw in towords a tight flag tucked into the back right although I was a good 30ft short, I played to within 2 foot and sunk the second putt for par, how I dont know because I was shaking like a leaf.
Dave did really really well to also make par on the last. He faded his tee shot which took an unfortunate bounce under the tree's to the right. He manged to get out and up close to the edge. A very nice pitch up onto the long sloping green was unfortunate to finish a good 15ft??? with a slight uphill and a bit of left to right IIRC. He nailed it dead centre for a great finish.
Although we were playing together, it wasn't competetive and Dave was really supporting when I lost my head and had a 7 on the 16th. He held me together and give me some good encouragement which really helped me to finish well with an 82.
Got to pay my respects to Dave, as always, he is fantastic company, a great laugh and very generous.
His long game was excellent and he played some superb shots into the greens from 170/180 with ease. Does need a little work on his bunker shots bunker shots bunker shots bunker shots bunker shots
(Dave thanks again mate, Look forward to the Brabazon)
The 18th
The Clubhouse and Putting green
A stroll up the last was pleasing looking at my ball sitting pretty in the middle
There it is
Can just make out my approach
Daves great recovery, he went on to sink this for his par
The rest of the pics are on my photobucket site if anyone cares to have a look. click here
O look the football is almost on
