Glad to say that we did not need a play-off at The Kings (Gleneagles) yesterday as my partner and I won our 'friendly' season challenge series by one, with a 2&1 victory yesterday`.
We have run thie challenge for last two seasons, 4 mates, same partners, each hosting at their course of choice - so the competition is as fierce as the pre/post game slagging matches.
A blustery day yesterday made the Kings a stiff challenge, but as always the greens were amazing. So true & so fast - even after heavy midweek rain.
A hungover partner (who won the 1st hole ?) made the front 9 a challenge for us, but we kept it close until the turn ( one down)
A timely coffee, bacon roll & kit-kat at the halfway house re-energised us and we pegged them back.
My game eventually turned up on the 15th with a wedge & putt for par. An up & down from bunker on 16th kept it level.
Highlights were my 5i and 4i approaches into 17th & 18th - both to 20ft for 2 putt pars. Solid golf as our opponents crumbled under pressure by hooking/slicing their drives into the ugly stuff
The win was celebrated with a Guinness, a burger a a nip into the Johnny Walker to watch the big boys play the game properly.
If Carlsberg made Sundays............
