VAR

Talking to a welsh guy yesterday. Who happens to be a City fan. He was saying VAR is taking away a lot of fun in Rugby. Nigh on every try is reviewed.

Reading this thread and talking to friends it seems like everyone that actually attends games are against it. Most (not all) of the armchair fans are for it. Since the TV fan actually puts more into our clubs than the bums on seats nothing will change.
When I stop going my place will probably be taken by someone younger who is more accepting of this new way of watching football. Football has changed, and not for the better.

If they can't see the flaws in VAR after the abject performance in the Norwich - Chelsea game then there is no hope for it whatsoever. And I was hopeful that it could be an improvement.

Peter Walton trying to explain why VAR didn't change some decisions. It is utterly laughable to listen to him trying to justify why a clear stamp is not a red card offence, amongst others. I have never heard one human being spout so much :poop: in such a short space of time. (and Mrs BiM has given this a like (y) )

It was poor yesterday as you should have had a clear penalty but I’m not sure on the stamp - it’s a strange one , looked like he was just going to stop the ball and then the Chelsea guy got there a second before and looked an accident as he appeared to be looking away and was shocked when he made contact BUT i suppose it’s all about intent

I take it you watched it on MOTD Phil? Watching it live on BT, Peter Crouch & Joe Cole absolutely trashed it. Christ, even Chris Sutton, who hates us on a good day, says that it was a joke.

Hahahaha. I was pro-VAR but if that's not a pen I'm done with it. What's it for? The lad has absolutely wiped Kane out ffs. Get rid of it.

Walton was comedy gold trying to big VAR and how well it works. So many VAR discrepancies this weekend it just doesn't seem close to being usable and reliable

Peter Walton on BT is complete waste of time and oxygen. Every time there's a contentious decision they cut to Walton so he can tell us the referee was correct. Even when he's had a stinker, here's Walton to back him up and defend him - what's the point? Bloody ref's union. I literally don't even remember him being a ref, never heard his name until he was on there.

Just seen the foul on Haller v Norwich, how hasn’t it been referred to the ref to check 😂😂😂😂

What is the point in having millions of pounds worth of tech and not using it?

They are currently a laughing stock because of this.

I’m dead against it but if it’s here then use it.

It wasn’t the only decision neither, horror tackle in the Leicester game went unpunished.

Then there’s the offside in our game where Barnes is clearly offside, Lino keeps their flag down like they’re told to do and the ball goes out for a corner and play on like nothing has happened.

But if you score and are 1mm over the line it’s cancelled, wtf??

They were. A laughing stock before VAR, now it’s an expensive laughing stock.

Is there something wrong with the VAR pictures they get ?!

How the hell didnt Tielemans get sent off and that’s on top of the Villa disallowed goal

Add in the Haller tackle as well

It’s getting embarrassing

Came on here to write exactly this. All three were genuinely terrible decisions, yet none were overruled. Painful.

I reckon the referees association actually don’t want to use VAR but have had to bow down to the media as they pay the wages.

I can see similarities with TM’s brexit, a complete balls up.

The difficulty for VAR is that everyone expects the decisions it provides will be correct despite those calls being based upon the judgement of an individual.

Television is a two dimensional medium and, therefore, is restricted in the information it can provide.

In some instances this is not a problem as in the case of the Tielemanns challenge.

In others it is. From one angle it appeared that Grealish may have been fouled, from another it seems that he dived having hung out his left leg to try to create contact and the defender pulling away.

So just like the old days i.e. pre-VAR it is all about opinions.

So let’s pretend it doesn’t exist and let’s carry with our game. Maybe only use it for mistaken identity.

I don't think there was much, if any debate on the Grealish one. He didn't even look for a penalty, he actually managed to play the ball to his teammate while going down, then got straight up. Never looked at the ref or anything. To call it a dive was laughable, and the VAR would have clearly showed all that, surely??
