Using tees ?

May seem stupid but do you have to use tees?
I know that it means on the tee box you have a perfect lie , but for some reason today I could not hit a 5 wood off a tee, however when I removed the tee from the equation , I was hitting the 5 wood very long and straight.

You don't have to but as it's one of the only advantages you can gain you'd be silly not to. Seems a case of mind over matter with the 5 wood as you were clearly swinging ok to get it off the deck

Have played a few clubs over here where its a local rule , tees must be used , i take a short or broken one & push it right down then.

I don't use a tee apart from the driver. In my case it saves a lot of shanking. Whatever works for you.

I use little castle tees for my irons and hybrid they're about half a cm, just the job.

First of all I thought silly question, then I see someone saying in Ireland it's a local rule in some courses that you must use tees!!!
I'm hard pushed to think of a more ridiculous and uninforceable rule!

What's the point of this local rule? Have the clubs given a reason? Please don't say it's to preserve the tee!!
