Use of buggies

Only if they have a medical exemption which i letter from the doctors stating they can only play if in a buggy

Maybe it's a competitive advantage using one?

May be true for scratch events, but a players handicap will reflect the fact they use a booking. That is if a buggy is an advantage which I doubt. Not really in favour as I find them anti social, but players should not be discouraged from playing in competitions because of health factors.

Sorry mods can you move to rules of golf?

I don't think it's a rules issue rather than an attitude shown by some clubs. Why on earth would a player have to go to his GP for a letter to allow him to use a buggy to play in competitions. There doesn't have to be an identifiable health reason for the older golfer to want a buggy to help him continue to play and enjoy his golf. This is another outdated stance by a number of clubs. Golf is meant to be an enjoyable pastime in which many players want to keep participating for as long as they can.

I've just joined the committee at our place and I'm going to ask this question. Personally I don't have a problem with it. Buggies don't suit a lot of people so I'm not totally convinced that it gives an advantage anyway. We play for fun, let it go.

I know of golfers who cannot physically manage 18 holes without the aid of a buggy, and I know of others who use them to their advantage. Playing a hilly course the user of the buggy should and more often then not would feel fresher towards the end of the round than one who walks the course.

I think the use of buggies in competitions should be addressed at club level and be a local 'rule of competition'

unfortunately im in the buggy user group as my knee would be caning me after about four holes ,,using a buggy i will and am able to play for a whole round .so because i carry an injury i would have to get a letter from my doctor to say please let him use a buggy so he can continue with his HOBBY.
some clubs need to have a look at themselves regarding buggy use . personally when i wasnt injured and used a buggy i didnt enjoy the game as much as when on foot .

As someone who needs a buggy to get round 18 holes I can't see an issue with it as long as it's for medical reasons. In my own case it certainly doesn't give an advantage as I'm well knackered even using a buggy for the 18 holes. My own club doesn't have buggies, so, my competitive days are behind me now.

No issue at my club about using buggies in comps. Most of the people that do usually have a valid reason you don't see the same people using them all the time. Some of the members do have their own but they really do need them, which is fine because if they did not they would not be able to do 18 holes.

If you're healthy and capable of walking why would you use a buggy ?
