I think this is ridiculous tbh, I have no idea why the Open won't come back to Portrush or go to Royal County Down, 2 of the top 5 best courses in the world. There is literally no chance that these two courses wouldn't be on the Open rota if they were in mainland Britain. Obviously, as an Ulsterman, it would be great to see all the worlds best play in my back garden, but I think it's an absolute shambles that the US PGA will give Portrush a major but the R&A won't.

Its said that " never let the truth get in the way of a good story" ;)

I think that it is a good idea to have the PGA as a world wide, roaming major, seeing as it doesn't have the prestige of the other 3 majors, it's basically just the US Opens little sister. I just think that it shouldn't come to the UK, as we have our own major. I feel that the Open should be played at the 9 best courses in the British isles, and any one who has played RP or RCD knows that these two are right up there.

saw this story on twitter earlier seems to miss the point if they come to the UK? i thought the idea was to spread the majors globally not just to even up between UK and USA.
personally i would of thought Austarilia or the far east would be a better choice to move a major out of America

I think RP would be a fantastic venue for any major, but it remains to be seen if the R&A or PGA of America ever come. I prefer RCD as a course, but the logistics there are hopeless.

One consideration in favour of UK courses is US TV coverage. They don't want live coverage too far away from peak viewing times, so Europe is OK but Asia is tricky. The NI Assembly would probably pitch in a fair chunk of dose to support this, and the crowds would be excellent. If they can get the infrastructure stuff right, and relatively peaceful conditions hold, then it is not impossible.

I think the point is to take it out side of the US but possibly not take a huge risk taking it somewhere that might flop. At least in the UK they will get loads of folk going and it will be sold out. I know that austrailia would sell out too but they maybe wanting to play save first of all.

I think its a throw away comment by an over eager Tommy tank making comments way outside his pay grade tbh :( Its a real shame that these gorgeous courses and others in the UK and Europe dont get a look in for the Open or in this case other majors and lets face it other Tour events. Unfortunately these events are all about money nowadays and a whole host of other things related around infrastructure, sponsorship etc etc rather than just being a superb test of golf.

My 3 problems with having it in Asia are the fact that it would be on in the middle of the night, the fact that the locals might not understand how big a deal it is and no show, I would hate to see a major being played with the atmosphere of a regular European Tour event and the fans being ignorant of the etiquette needed in golf, like they were last week in Turkey i.e. moving or taking pictures during players swing. Can you imagine a player losing a major because someone took a snap on the top of a players backswing on the 72nd hole? Personally, I would like to see a major played in Spain, somewhere that has produced world class golfers and where the locals know their stuff. Also, us Brits could go and watch it if it was held there.

Bold 1 - Are you suggesting that Asian fans would be any worse at etiquette than the American morons that shout Mashed Potato or Pepperoni Pizza on every shot? Or even worse "Get in the hole" on a tee shot for a 580 yard Par 5.

Bold 2 - Or an American fan shouting "Go Tiger" during someone's swing?

At least the idiots who shout out in America do it after the ball has been hit, did you watch it last week? Ian Poulter stepping off every shot to tell some one not to take pictures during his swing.

Didn't get to see any of it last week so can't comment on the fans behaviour, but do recall an American fan shouting "Go Tiger" during Garcia's swing a couple of months ago after the falling out between those two.

I think Asian fans are pretty familiar with golf etiquette. In fact they may be a bit too subdued even for fragile European tastes. There has been a lot less professional golf in Turkey, so I think you could forgive some of the fans for being a bit unfamiliar with what to do or not to do. I doubt there will be much beer-fuelled stuff either.

I like the ide of it becoming a nomadic event and think for Asia and Australian markets it will help grow the game. I am sure it will come to Europe as part of this and if we can get it to some of these places like Portrush then it does put pressure on the R&A to at least look at this for the Open roster in more detail
