US Open 2025 - Oakmont

Tough watch this. Course is visually unattractive and some of the runoffs are punishing decent shots.

I gave up watching the US Open seriously years ago. I’ve caught bits of this, but am not really watching it.

Personally I am absolutely sick and tired of the USGA and their willy waving. They make the courses so ridiculously difficult that they border on unfair, punishing decent shots as you rightly say.

I am no fan of seeing 25 under winning tournaments, but neither do I enjoy seeing the worlds best golfers look like hackers. If I want to watch hackers, I go to mine on a Saturday morning.

Yeah gotta agree with most of the comments... Am still watching it as I love watching the majors.... But it's a much harder watch than usual... Unattractive course...no shape to the holes... Ridiculous greens... Rough that is so thick you would never find your ball without spotters... Having pros have to take wild swings just to get it out the rough and only have a general idea where it is going is not good viewing....

The thing is this course would be really really hard even without the stupid rough

I don’t mind it though once a year it’s a fun watch

Quail Hollow was ridiculous that bad shots were just not punished enough

I didn’t see much of yesterday’s coverage, but my regular playing partner this morning was telling me that Justin Rose’s caddy told him yesterday to play to miss 8 short and right where the gallery had been walking as that gave him the best opportunity of making par.

Sorry, but that sums it up for me. Just plain daft.

I've not watched a lot so far. Obviously the rough looks horrific. Is it mega long as well (beyond the mega long Par 3)?

I'm all for growing high rough in certain areas, maybe to punish longer drives and making it risk and reward. Or long rough on shorter courses generally, encouraging players to be more cautious.

Not a fan of a course being made mega long, with mega punishing rough everywhere. Just becomes a slog.

It seems like anytime I've seen a player miss a green, they are having to hack a chip from rough, and they are relying on luck as to where ball finishes after the chip

If it wasn’t a major, I doubt most of the players would turn up. What is the point of having rough around the greens that takes all the short game skills away from the players.
