I wouldn't bother, are there no municipal courses that you could play?
First world problems!
Just waiting for SILH to say he has had the round of his life with borrowed clubs...😁
Well - that's us home from Dubai and reflecting on what was an enjoyable 10 days in a pretty mad place. And reflecting upon playing golf in Dubai - and on playing the Emirates Faldo Course.
Borrowed what seemed a decent set of clubs - though pretty old I think:
> Taylormade Tour Burner Driver
> Taylormade R580 fairway woods
> Callaway Big Bertha Heavenwood hybrid
> Callaway Big Bertha Fusion irons
> Nike Unitized Neo putter
And so we arrived at the 1st tee and the guys we were paired up with for the round arrived. One dead nice guy from Sheffield and a local. We were advised by the Sheffield lad (Darr) that Tariq - the local bloke - had loads of difficult personal problems. And then he turned up. Drunk as a skunk - at 9am.
Anyway. Though somewhat distracted by Tariq as he tried to tee off the 1st with his partners LH driver, and the fact that he probably hit the ball no more than 4 times in the first nine - sleeping the rest of the time - Off we went - with Darr occasionally having to put Tariq back on his buggy after he had fallen off![]()
Front nine - not that great - dropped 11 shots - driver issues and getting used to irons On 10th Darr got Tariq taken back to the clubhouse by the Marshalls. Back nine I put away the driver and took 3 wood off tee - and on back 9 shot 4 over gross - which included 2 birdies.
And so played one under my handicap back nine and overall 5 over. If back nine had gone as front 9 I'd have been pretty down - but the back nine was great!
Lovely course. Greens immaculate (though not that fast) - fairways like a Wilton carpet.
Pity you are so surrounded by building sites, villas tight to some holes, and skyscrapers looming over you.
Worth £150? Well I can say that I've played 'The Emirates'. Next time? Might try and play 'The Majlis' championship course - but if not - then probably wouldn't. But according to Darr the new course to play is Yaz Island in Abu Dhabi - a very links-ish course just 150km down the road and an hour twenty drive away.
For an alleged classy course I cannot believe or understand why they would let someone on who is bladdered.
Glad you enjoyed it though.
Did you get Tariq's phone number![]()
