Upcoming live concerts.

My first exposure to anything Ryan Adams…playing solo - acoustic guitars and piano…

Was he brilliant? Oh yes indeed he was. Did his beautiful singing and playing create an almost hypnotic atmosphere…absolutely. Was he a bit bonkers and ‘random’…yup. Was it fun?…well ‘fun’ isn’t exactly how I’d describe it…but it was certainly very enjoyable. And he played for 3hrs…not including the 20mins break…he enjoyed the evening as did an almost full Barbican.
I used to love Ryan Adams. Gold is an absolutely timeless album. Saw him on that Gold tour circa 2001 at the Astoria in London (RIP). One of the top 5 best gigs I've ever been to. He was off his face on coke and had broken his strumming hand the previous day punching a door at the previous day's venue.

Was still captivating and played well past curfew, giving us an acoustic set and full band set.

My opinion has been marred a bit though, given his sexual abuse allegations in recent years.

But It doesn't surprise me in the slightest that he still puts on an incredible show.

The Beacon on 26th which I think is a Wednesday
Lovely venue, that.

a mere 5 minute walk away is Small Bar, which has a plethora of craft beers on tap and also have a kitchen that serves probably the best chicken you'll ever eat in your entire life. There's a few other good pubs down the same road too, If you're stopping over and want to partake in more than a few beers.

Think the plan was to stop over and HID and I can do the docks (or get dragged round the shops) or something similar and then take a slow drive back after and avoid the rush hour

Definitely want to head down King Street for drinks (and chicken from Small Bar - unless you're looking for somewhere a bit more up market) in the evening then.

I was at that show, a mate got press tickets. Quite a remarkable show - though I would dispute that it was just coke, I think he might have taken a few other things as well!

hahaha! Yep, could have been a mix of stuff for sure.

I've been to hundreds of shows probably, but that one is one of the most memorable. And I really miss the Astoria, such an incredible, iconic venue.

I think I've got a bootleg recording of it somewhere.

The Astoria was great, you're right - one of the very few gig venues I've been to where there really wasn't a bad place to watch from as a result of the wide stage and canted floor Saw some amazing shows there when I first moved to London, including Sabbath, Slipknot, an amazing Type O Negative show and Mark Lanegan. There was a barmaid around that time who looked just like my ex girlfriend, which freaked me out every time!

I've definitely got a bootleg in the garage.

Last show I saw there was Coheed and Cambria on their Good Apollo IV tour - one of the final years it was open and it was the first time I've experienced the entire venue shaking from the sound - so it's probably best they closed it down :D

My lad is on the tour bus with Adams for a few nights at the moment. He’s telling us that it’s quite an experience - in a ‘not quite what you’d expect’ way.

Currently hoping to get tickets for joint UB40 and Soul II Soul show at London O2 early Nov.

That's really cool! What does he do?
In the context of the Ryan Adams tour he is the promotor’s rep - he does this on top of currently being Production Manager UK for the same promotions company.

As rep he does the advancing (sorting out beforehand) for the artist/band and liaison with the venue both on the day and beforehand. He usually drives or ‘trains’ from venue to venue, but he’s on the bus at the moment for travel to RA’s shows in Liverpool, Edinburgh and London.

It is a cool job, both aspects of what he does, but it is exhausting - with few days off..

Ah, seen that a few times - mainly when Motorhead were playing!

I’ve just experienced my first ever attempt a getting tickets via presale on Ticketmaster. I have no complaints about the process but despite having two goes of pre sales, one by buying the Coldplay CD, the second by living in the local postcode, we failed to get any tickets. 8300 odd in the queue this morning, 13,000 this afternoon.

Well that’s a couple hours of my life wasted.

My daughter, lives in Hull now, had the same experience. She started off at 7,200, got nothing. Most annoying, if there are no tickets why not remove those areas as options?

Ticketmaster need their dominance taking down.

Why bother, Coldplay are SO boring.
