Based on Chellie's underfloor heating thread, but want to push the boat a bit....
We are looking to put an offer on a property which has a large garden (it will need be ripped out to make it usable). We are also thinking of extending the back of the property. The existing property will also need new carpets/flooring done and new boiler.. I am thinking of ways to reduce carbon footprint (read save money on running cost)
1) How easy/difficult is it have ground heat exchangers. Is a 50sq feet garden efficient enuf to be used as underfloor heating?
2) The current house has a fireplace and flue in place. we can update that to an open wood burning one. Instead of wasting the heat by sending it up the vent, can it be converted to heat the house/underfloor
3) Can we combine 1 & 2
4) As a south facing, we can put solar panels in (at some point). again where can it add value?
If we do all this, then we might just get on the 'Grand Design' show..
