so for all the outrageous behaviour that seemingly happens at every event according to some...not a single player has been sanctioned despite there being a clear code of conduct and officials with sanctioning power?

I believe there are fines handed out relatively often on the DPWT for various misbehaviour, Eddie Pepperell has certainly talked about this on the Chipping Forecast. A significant example was when Sergia Garcia was disqualified from a Saudi event in 2019.

I think most of us know what the line is. Swearing is unlikely to get a 2 shot penalty, depending on context, but smashing a tee box, bunker lip or green...........

i think the authorities are seeing a slight spike in behaviour and want to nip it in the bud. I'm not expecting to see an avalanche of penalties here.

That's what I'm saying - if he caused damage to the course then absolutely a penalty is deserved. Not for a bit of swearing though.

It’s always going to be a judgement call - if someone goes into a foul mouth rant do you think that’s acceptable

Need to think beyond just a simple quick swear outburst - that’s not what they are looking at here

As others have said, Codes of Conduct already exist in the golf world, and have for years. Authority is embodied in the Rules, Rule 1.2, Conduct Expected of All Players,

b. Code of Conduct​

The Committee may set its own standards of player conduct in a Code of Conduct adopted as a Local Rule.

• The Code may include penalties for breach of its standards, such as a one-stroke penalty or the general penalty.
• The Committee may also disqualify a player for serious misconduct in failing to meet the Code’s standards.

As previously mentioned Sergio DQ’d for “that” bunker tantrum.

Bryson was fined for damaging a green in the WGC.

Rory Sabbatini was fined for playing ahead of Ben Crane for breach of etiquette.

John Daly has been fined, DQ and suspended numerous times for hitting moving balls and walking off a course mid round.

I’m sure there’s other examples but it certainly happens but maybe now it’s occurring more often they want to nip it in the bud

I mentioned it happens every week. Why? Because law of averages 100+ players in an event means it’s likely at least 1 will do it every week. That’s not unlikely as a percentage at all.

Just because there are no other big advertised cars doesn’t mean it’s not happening. It just means they’re likely not high profile players if it’s happening.

But that doesn’t suit the argument for those against sanctions against petulance

Further to this a quick googles shows in the last 12 months there have been

5 club throwing on PGAT & 3 DPWT
1 for each tour on damaging greens
And 2 on each for verbal abuse

So it does happen but unless it’s big names it not advertised.

I’ve not said there is a conduct problem overall I’ve said those that are guilty of showing this sort of conduct should be punished.

Also like I posted above the incidents in the last year, yes it’s a low number but those were all punished. You and I just don’t hear about it as it’s not a big name being brought to task. Hopefully that signifies that largely at the better end of the game these guys are setting an example. Doesn’t mean we should let others slip though!

What is the issue with a code of conduct and relevant penalties for players that break it

For the big boys it will be carry on as normal, they will only punish an unknown or youngster.
Exactly the same as the time penalties that were brought in.
Also some swear words have different meanings and connotations in different countries/languages, it could be a very grey area.

One of my pet peeves is sports commentators having to apologise for bad language, whether that's from players or the crowd. It's pathetic, anyone who complains to Ofcom should have their TV taken away.
