How many of you guys belong to what I class as Traditional golf clubs.
For example, at our club we still have a men only bar and the ladies have restricted play at weekends.
The men are restricted on Wednesdays as its Ladies day
Although we have had EGM's on this subject, the ladies seem not want equality and are happy with their lot, probably because their fees are cheaper.
I am interested to hear if most older golf clubs have implemented equalty in line with the newer ones.

We have no lady members and we also have a men only bar.
As old school as old school gets.

I thought this might be the case in parts of Scotland.
I remember my parents went up there for a Golfing Holiday some years ago. My Mum was asked to leave the car park !
Cant remember where it was though

Mens Bar, ladies get the later unwanted tee times on saturday and have tuesday as their day. They do have a lounge themselves which is a lot neater than the mens so to me that balances things out a little.

I have a mate who is a member of Western Gailes. (lucky B!!!) Anyway when I am lucky enough to get to play with him its all to my advantage.

1. He must turn up in Blazer collar and tie, I dont.
2. He must wear said attire on leaving the golf club. I dont.
3. I am not allowed to buy or order drink at the bar it must be the member!!!

That all said I wish I was a member as it is simply stunning. An awesome beast of a course and I love it.

The ladies at Royal Ascot have Tuesday mornings as their dedicated slot. They also run weekend competitions straight after the mens event.

Whilst they don't have a separate area per se they tend not to congragate in the main bar area but socialise in the lounge are on the sofas.

That said they also contribute an awful lot to the club from preparing and upkeeping hte table decorations in the restaurant to doing a lot of the organising on the social side.

There seem to be a lot more mixed events recently (greensomes, scrambles etc) and whilst I do not play them out of choice (I just don't enjoy the formats nothing to do with playing with women) I am wondering if it is the club trying to bring the two sides close together.

We did have a rule about not changing shoes inthe car park which I felt was great. Sadly we are now allowed to roll up in the summer from first light which means you can tee off before the locker room is open at 7.30 so consequently the rule was revoked to allow players to change and get 9/18 holes in early.

The down side is we are getting regular members on a weekend pulling up in the car getting changed in the car park and repeating the process afterwards and never setting foot in the club. Mostly newer members and sadly they will gain a reputation for this type of behaviour.

We don't have any set dress codes (apart from smart casual - pretty much the norm) but you must where club kit (white and blue club shirt, blue jumper and trousers) for club matches. Makes us look really smart as a team

Like have said before Royal Ascot is a traditional private members club but with a laid back attittude. Long may that continue

Incredible! BTW What's the point of having a men only bar when there are no lady members?
Seriously though, I've just spoken to my brother-in-law who celebrates his birthday tomorrow (Burns Day). We agreed that life would be better in a men only house.

We have no lady members, but ladies are still allowed in the clubhouse. Just not in the back bar.

Clubhouse open to all members of the public for coffees/lunch/dinner/breastfeeding/whatever. Prospering, as it should.

Just over the hill from Muirfield, too. Don't think they'd like us.

Traditional, perhaps, but a bit more laid back. Thursday PM is for ladies, but the tee opens when they have all tee'd off. Ladies have equal status, and I think the similar green fees. They can tee off on Saturday and Sunday after 10 (AM of course). The only day they can't play is if there is a medal on, but they can tee off once the 'field' is out. They don't tend to use the bar, but can if they want to, they just seem to prefer the lounge. Probably less swearing and drunkeness.

in two minds about equality in the golf club.

On the good side you can get away from the ladies for a while.

On the bad side it is not nice to have less rights/input than others, but i do find that in all walks in life each group of people ladies, minorities, associate members rather than full members ect ect shout about equality only when it suits them they will not take the rough with the smooth.

What from the ladies?

My club has just offered full membership to the ladies so they can play in the main comps. We no longer have a men only bar it's now a Members bar.

Overall I'm not in favour of segregation, but neither am I in favour of unequal equality (ladies' day at the gym but no men's day?). (And positive discrimination is still discrimination!)
Having seen some of the ladies playing at our club they could teach some us - they've a better fairway % than most of the men.
I don't tend to differentiate who's causing delays (Ladies, Seniors, Societies, Hackers, Pedantic micromanagers etc) they're all a pain in the ****.

We have total equality at our club now, and the Ladies pay the same annual fees as the men. They have their own competitions and Opens, and would have the same usage of the course if there were more of them. Unfortunately there are only abouut 100 lady members I believe, and perhaps only 75 of those are what I would call active.

its 2008 these clubs want to enter the real world.

So why are men excluded from

ladies night in the swimming pool
ladies night in the gym
ladies night in the bowls

.....

It swings both ways, we are just unlucky enough to have a sport they are interested in. (no offence AliB)

I say keep the old values.

Here Here!!!

There is nothing wrong with a mens only lounge/bar, after a bloody hard day at work whats wrong with going to the club for a few quiet drinks without any WAGs
