Please don’t ask to see my tatts 👍
First proper comp I ever played in was captains day 2 yr ago. Anyway I went and won, I felt a right prat.
following year I played again but did a raffle at work and made £400 plus which I dropped on the desk when I signed, in the Captain was there and was blown away. it just seemed a natural thing to do, the raffle.
Anyway two years later the pits closing and I get wind that the Pits benevolent fund has to be wound up and members were urged to write letters recommending charities so they could receive possible donations.
it seemed to be done on the quiet, but I thought sod it and wrote a letter asking for 5k for the captains charity to be split between Notts Lincs air ambulance and Beaumond house Hospice in Newark. It got kicked out because the people at the meeting that night would not donate to a second party to pass onto a third party. I was proper narked. but not for long.
five letters had been put in with Notts lincs air ambulance being nominated twice. A member proposed that the fund is split so each of the five nominated charities gets 20% each.
i have just got back from Mansfield Building society where both Notts Lincs air ambulance and Beaumond House hospice have just been handed cheques to the value of £11,400 each. It did not go direct to the captains charity but by my reckoning nearly 23k is better than 5k.
extra biccie for Tash with his tea today.
Ironically on BBC East Midlands news today, they are running a story where the same hospice is financially struggling. Hope it helps them short term.
