The whole 18 majors 'will he won't he' debate is gathering momentum.

Tiger is 36.
When jack was 36 how many majors do you think he had won?
Yep that's right 14.

Tiger however is not jack (obvious) but there are many similarities that I'm sure tiger has modelled himself on jacks outlook.

I for one believe tiger can at least equal the 18 but he really needs to win that 15th by perhaps nx years uspga.

Apart from jacks last two majors where there was a 6 year gap the longest he had went without a major was 3 years.
Tigers current and longest drought is 4 years.

Ross that's big Jack to you.:)

Their records are very similar, but I am not sure Tigers body will last too many more years. If Tiger had already beaten Jacks record I wonder if he would still be pushing himself to carry on trying to win majors.

Think he will win a few more majors but will be hard pushed to beat 18.

Absolutely has to get the driver working though.

Tiger can win majors, if he'd shot -2 today he'd (mathematically) have won. I can't decide if his 'plan' backfired and he should have been more aggressive or whether his plan was good but he just didn't quite produce it on demand.

One thing is certain - you can't play an iron for safety and then dump it in the bunker, to that extent I think his plan failed, although I still (personally) think that he achieved something pretty amazing... namely coming close whilst leaving pretty much all of the long clubs in the bag. It must be amazing to know you can leave yourself that far from the green and not be phased by it... i'd have liked to seen him with some short clubs in his hand though.

And if Adam Scott had shot level par he'd have won at a canter, neither did.

Im not sure his plan backfired, when he hit a poor shot he was punished and rightly so but he did hit more good than bad over 4 days.

As for Tiger v Jack in majors, I dodn't think Jack has anything to worry about

For the longest time, I just thought Tiger by default, not really knowing Jack's career properly. But when I started to look into it, while Tiger may still beat that 18 thanks to better fitness and general athletic conditions in modern sports, I now very much go towards Jack.

Jacks consistency for a WHOLE decade in the 70's is simply untouchable, that's basically Federer-esque, that won't be broken and that kind of consistency is crazy. Only 4 times out of the top 10 compared to 15 for Tiger in the 2000's(2 of which he didn't play). And that's ignoring the 60's(16 out of the top 10, 4 DNP's).

Golf tournaments are getting a little like the Grand national at the moment, anyone could win them if they're on form that week.

Nobody is standing out at the moment. Micklesons off the boil, Mcilroys Heads up his backside, and Luke and Lee can't seem to seal the deal when it matters.

I still think Woods is the most naturally talented player out there by a distance, and who knows he could win the next four majors in a row, It wouldn't surprise me, because nobody else is really shining at the moment.

I honestly do think Tiger will win again, but don't think it will be on a links.

His form early season and the way he played for his 3 wins shows he still has a winning mentality. As many have said form in temporary but class is permanent, his form this season shows that.

I think he has another major in him, two at most, but don't see him getting past Jacks 18.

Sorry but Tiger is no Golden bear. Either as a golfer or as a man, never will be. Full stop. Being the best golfer is not the only criteria in my view. Its also how you behave as a man as well.

I'm not even sure how you start to compare and I'm not sure I really care. They are both greats of the game and they are both the best players of their generation. I'm not sure you can really split them. My opinion is that if Tiger hadn't been so stupid off the course and had remained fit. Jack's major record would have been beaten by now but I don't think that would necessarily make Tiger better than Jack in the same way I don't think the fact Tiger is currently 4 behind makes Jack better than Tiger.

Both greats for me, don't care who is better

And how would you know what Jack was really like as a man behind closed doors?
I don't believe for one minute Jack has no skeletons in his closet.

My opinions on TW are well documented on here, so I was glad he failed yesterday.
As far as whether he'll ever be thought of like Nicklaus/Watson etc, I dont think so, he's already hated/despised by as many people as still like him, which was never the case with the old greats.
In fact, I think Tom Watson has more humility & dignity in his little finger than TW will ever have.

Oh, and one more thing, Tigers' swing. - Sure it gets the job done for the most part, but just how unconventional is he becoming in his desperation to stay at the top ??
He's aiming so far left at address its untrue, and the fade he plays with is more extreme than most club hackers ! Ok, its consistent, but he used to have a superbly conventional swing, if a little forced.
Bloody ugly nowadays.
