Tiger v Jack

Not at all, I love to respond to young people who have a poor grasp of history.

Please remind me of how many shots Eldrick was behind 60 year old Tom Watson at the Turnberry Open.
Did he qualify for the last two days?

How old am I?

Where was I schooled?

Losing at your own childish games?

Keep your nostalgia, I KNOW Tiger Woods is the greatest to ever play the game. I don't feel the need to cling to the notion that my generation produced the best players.

Tiger does need to win another major soon if he is to get anywhere near the record. i'm sure Ross is accurate when he says that in terms of age tiger and jack are level but i don't think jack ever had such a breakdown. He might do it but Tiger has left himself a long trek back to major wins. It was obvious at the open in rounds 3 and 4 that tiger is definitely not back.

These threads have been done to death so many times.
Simple truth is that if Eldrick passes Jacks record he will be recognised as the best golfer, until then he is just a plain old No2.

He passed it recently with many less years on tour.

Oh wait, you're sticking to that Major criterion again because it suits you better. :D

Different golfers from decent eras if you are looking purely from a golfing perspective. I think Woods has a major in him but I can't see him getting enough to to equal or beat Jack.

If you are looking to compare the two head to head then for what we DO know, Jack has carried himself so much better than Tiger. I think pressure and the stress on his body will force Tiger into calling it a day by 40 and will be short. Still the best player of his generation (if we are talking pure golf) but not the best ever

Please explain what you mean by major criterion.

I have been lucky enough to watch both of these golfers in their youth and prime. I followed an 18 year old Nicklaus in his Walker cup match at Muirfield and saw Eldrick at Porthcawl.
Nicklaus at 18 was not very impressive in a very good USA team. My father was the marker in his match and he said that he would go far. He was in a minority of one.
Eldrick at 20[ish] when he played at Porthcawl was just a very big hitter and far away from the finished product. He made some simple mistakes when he lost his singles to Gary Wolstenholme.

Both great players of their generation but as Homer says Eldrick body will not last the course and I don't think he has the skill to play another way. Have you noticed that he cannot draw a drive into the wind or with a left to right wind. That caused his indecision at Lytham and lost him an Open he should have won.
