Same chipping issues!...

From an article in Blackmoor's Pro's regular email.....

"As it turned out, Tiger finished tied for last spot. Something that is not surprising due to the length of his layoff. His iron play was still good but the thing that was a shock was that his poor play was not due to errant driving but his short game. I cannot remember any tour player hit as many duff pitch shots in a round as Tiger did on the first day. His action was similar to many amateurs who I see struggle with the same shot.

This is known as "Handle Dragging" with the result being that the leading edge of the clubhead digs into the ground. The result is either a fat or a thin shot. Interestingly, this is exactly the action that has been taught over the years but will not work consistently. The alternative is using the bounce that is put on a wedge for a reason. I recently gave Richard Hart exactly the same lesson. He used to hit these shots the same as Tiger Woods. He is much better than that now."

Are they saying he's better at hitting duffed chips....?:mmm::rofl::rofl::rofl:

If Rich had 3st more muscle, lost the beer belly, changed colour, hit the ball 200 yards further....................oh, and had a haircut.......Yep, I see where the Pro is coming from

I've seen Richart's short game. It could only get better and give my own short game issues some perspective. I wonder if the Blackmoor members will be flocking to play with him and view these dazzling news skills first hand

Thanks Foxy. Not as if I will be getting much stick at the Club either.:mmm:

Can't believe that certain forumers whose short games make a gorilla look like it has a delicate touch, have commented on this thread.

Oh and I would have used a hybrid if I was Tiger.:D

A pleasure! :D

I'm sure you'd do the same for (or is that 'to') me, so I'll stay incognito!

Yeah I agree....Chris, Imurg, Tony and Smiffy all have rubbish short games

Rich showed a great shot game with a cracking chip at Littlestone - landing it on six pence when there was next to no green to work with - I was impressed

I too saw the short game in action at Rcp, two balls in the rough right of the green. One piemans, one Richarts. Guess which one was chipped stone dead & which one was knifed :o

#handledragger :D

I used to play the ball back, open stance, and hit down with the leading edge. It was they way I was taught in the 70's. The Pro, Steve, who is my age said he was taught the same way.

Know I stand square to the ball, ball more in the middle, club handle level with the ball, and use the bounce of the club. It feels like a flick to me at the moment but I am sure I can groove it with practice. He had me practice by leaving the handle well behind the ball at impact, to get the feel of the clubhead hitting the ball, and not the grip getting in front of the head.

I find it easier to do at the moment with a fullish swing and lobbing the ball up high and say 30 yards, than the short chip shot over 10 yards. The fat shot has gone, but the thin when I quit on the shot is still there.:(

I showed Chrisd the chipping style at Littlestone, and it is the way he has been taught as well. Just chipping around the practice putting green I was fine, but on the course:eek: Hopefully that is just a lack of confidence.
