Thunder and lightning.

I started a blog a few weeks ago about players coming into the game that have no basic knowledge of the game and kinda learn as they go along.
Friday whilst playing Wollaton the Thunder and Lightning was of biblical proportions. The rain was just lashing it down, this was for about two hours on and off. We were at the furthest flippin point away from the club house, but there was no klaxons or anything. Stood on the 13th for about 25 mins and it was just epic. I was proper bogged off coz for the first time ever I had parred three on the spin on a foreign course.
But what is the does and donts when out on the course when the good Lord God starts up his orchestra.

PS, we played the 13th and 14 th, missed 15 an 16 and played 17 an 18. Walking down the 18th the course was packed as there was a company society day.

I went out with a proper golfer friend on Friday at Bowring park to try my first 18 and get some advice from him - we got to the 6th, about as far out from the carpark as you can get when that thunderstorm started. No klaxons there either but, even in my golfing ignorance I did work out that getting off the course was smart, but there was no option other than to walk back, hoping that not touching the electric trolley or umbrella ( in a holder) gave some small protection from lightening. We just paddled straight back noting the greens we had already played were now totally submerged.
The (good) advice I got from said proper golfer: "Go and buy some Galvin Green clothes"!Schedule

When I first started playing golf 4 of us went on a trip. Part way through our first round we encountered a similar style torrential downpour. Waterproofs came on and as there was no lightning we carried on playing. At the end of the round 3 of us were soaked through, cheap waterproofs, and one was dry, Proquip was his choice. Within days of getting home I had bought a GG jacket and Proquip trousers. Neither have ever let me down, no matter the strength of rain. Don't skimp on your waterproofs was the lesson well learnt.

If lightning started or threatened it is an immediate stop play for me, no question.

Got through 4 and a half holes the other night before the thunder started. Got in fairly quick once it started getting closer, at first thought it was heading away but we were just getting surrounded. Not risking staying out just for a game.

I put my GG coat on and it was off two holes later, it was that hot and humid the coat was wetter on the inside than out. Felt like I was doin a session in the gym with a bin bag on.

9 hole social last Friday. One flash of lightening very close and the klaxon went and we were off after just a few holes. Shame as everyone had gone to a lot of trouble to wear red white and blue to celebrate the Queens 90th. I would have gone anyway. No interest in being out in that, with nowhere to shelter. Once the torrential rain came as well no-one was going back out after the storm passed.
