Throwing clubs

I would like to see a 2 shot penalty brought in for throwing clubs. I dont care if you throw it 5 feet or 40 yards. If you throw a club, 2 shots straight away. I played this week with 3 different guys, each one of them threw quite a few clubs. Unreal, us trying to play golf while these tossers where, well tossing their clubs about.

2 shot penalty I say!

Agree with this. Its unacceptable. Also, banging clubs on the ground in frustration is totally wrong also.

Any throwing or aggressive contact with the ground while not playing the ball should result in a 2shot penalty.

What about the whack on the ground, taking it out on a tree etc. Like tennis its a form of equipment abuse which i agree should be punished. The problem is policing it - the helicoptor down the fairway is obvious but would you call someone up on a gently 'lob' back to the bag from the tee box, a frustrated 'tap' of the ground or bunker etc

How about if a player in the group in front was to slam his putter on the surface of the green causing a depression and you were to come along and putt over that blemish in the ground without noticing it?

Penalties should be incurred for any misconduct on the course. I would prefer to hear people shouting obsenities than slamming their clubs on the deck.

i was actually just watching sergio losing it on youtube earlier, i agree its bad but it was very funny! also ther was some other guy hammering his own head with his putter and bending it!"!! nuts!!!

i have to admit aswell though i have bashed the club into the ground in a hot headed moment but its very few and far between for me

I don't like throwing clubs but penalising for tapping a club off the ground would be a bit extreme, if you penalise club throwing I would like to throw excessive swearing into the equation as well

Could we apply this 2 shot penalty or loss of hole for throwing clubs, retrospectively?
I seem to remember a certain person throwing his 9 iron about around Forest Pines a while back.
Luckily, a young kid climbing the trees in the depths of the forest found it and handed it in.

But how exactly is a ruling like that to be enforced? Any grounding of a club could be construed as causing damage. What about pitch marks - especially the ones that don't get repaired! That's 'rub of the green'.

I frequently see club throwing in combination with swearing! They are not mutually exclusive!

Im new to this game and hate seeing it. Was playing with my father-in-law to be and partners uncle on wednesday. Got to the 16th and her uncle started shouting at the ball and throwing his club back in the direction of his bag. By the 17th he was trying to snap it over his knee and hitting the tee with it. After he duffed another shot on the 17th his 8 iron ended up nearly in the water hazard. This was the first time I have seen someone properly loose it on the course and tbh I didnt know how to react to it.
I just think if he gets wound up this bad in a friendly game what is he like in a competition. He's been playing 8 years as weel. It's funny because he said he didn't know if I had the temprement for golf.

I don't know how it would be enforced, just passing comments on it.

As for 'rub of the green' that is fair enough, although deliberately hitting the putting surface with a club is unacceptable. Would you see snooker players hitting the green stuff with their cues after missing the pocket? Would they try to pot balls over chalk marks?

As for swearing and throwing clubs, I realise these aren't mutually exclusive.

Did it once, HID (or her out doors on this occasion) gave me a look that made me feel about 5 years old. The reaction to a pathetically inept shot was then moderated to occasionally letting a club slip to the ground from my fingers whilst staring at the heavens and silently swearing. I'm now trying the shrug and get on with it ...

Club throwing is totally unacceptable.

Seen it at my club on a Saturday afternoon competition. The guy duffed his drive off the 10th, obviously frustrated, he bellowed "sh1t", ranted and raved then launched his driver down the fairway. The look on his playing partners faces said it all, as well as the disapproving looks from all around who heard and witnessed his tantrum.

To be fair, he did apologise to those within earshot, but didn't half look a knob walking down the fairway to retrieve his club!

been at the PGA Seniors tourney at Slaley today, was speaking to a chap who was there yesterday. He said Sam Torrance practically demolished an advertising board after he miscued, his ball bounced off it and ended up in the rubbish! Apparently an official removed the pieces, leaving a post in the ground which was not interfering with Torrance's play, but he then proceeded to attack that also

Wonder if he was driving off with the Slazenger K1 Speed he used to endorse relentlessly on the good old Golf Channel (sadly missed by the way.)

I duffed a nasty one out of the deep grass today and frustratedly shwished my wedge with one hand at the grass. Unfortunately, as the grip was so wet, the wedge slipped out of my hand and flew across the back of the green.

I haven't chucked a club in years, I was deeply embarrassed. Totally unintentional. I would have taken a 2 shot penalty....but the trouble is; where do you draw the line?

Ok, club launching isn't good, club thumping isn't either, swearing's probably worse. But can any one of us honestly say we haven't done some or all of these in our golfing career..?
And how do you differentiate between a full blown "****" and a muttered "******" under your breath.
I understand the reasoning but it ain't ever going to happen.

Helicopter away boys, it wont bother me nor does it bother me in the slightest. It actually makes me chuckle. From a recognised club chucker, keep chucking especially if numpties allow it to effect their game.
