Yes it's crazy a non smoking golf course!

I wonder how Angel "I don't use a psychologist I smoke" Cabrerra will get on? might be another few 10's on his card!

Players/caddies/officials inside the ropes are exempt and can still puff away

That is awful for smokers! They must have an allocated smoking spot on the course for them?

Only bit I think is acceptable is banning it from the grandstands. But when walking around the course, WHO CARES. Sorry I am ranting tonight over the US open coverage.

I gave up a year ago so try and see both sides, but what I do hate is to see fag ends on the course, it looks disgusting! Also wouldnt want to be sat next to someone smoking in the stands either.
But I do feel that smokers today are a lot more considerate and certainly should be allocated smoking zones/areas.

Does anyone else feel guilty when smoking on the golf course, or is it just me?

Yep, a little. Last night, I kept walking away from my playing partner on the tee to stop polluting his space....

I think it's all gone a bit sad. i.m.o. most smokers are more than happy to stay well clear of everyone and find a quiet corner, on the course, out and about, etc.
I rather like the ban myself, it gets me out in the fresh air, where I soon discover if I need to stop downing beers!!

I know that not long ago, smokers would light up everywhere and anywhere and in enclosed spaces it's a bit harsh really, I accept that. I've been pulled over for smoking outdoors in all sorts of places, goody goodies saying that this place is "no smoking".....at my work, it is illegal (apparently) to smoke anywhere (even 100 yards away from any buildings!!) so effectively as private outdoor areas can now be stipulated as smoke free then we are all running the gauntlet of possible prosecution. Silly.

I think if we are going to try and stop it completely, the government should keep rising the age limit. They're not going to reach 38 are they!!

me too.....I always chuck my biodegradable end in the rough or a bin. The bins at my course are cage-style....not so good. I'd prefer a topped bin where you can't see endless bottles, banana skins, Mars wrappers.

I would hate to see a situation where I couldn't smoke a cigar on a golf course (not that I often do). It's a totally different smoking experience and a good stogie can last for hours.

The smell of a good cigar is hard to beat IMHO.

Banning smoking cigarettes on the course - not really a problem with that one even though I smoke 'em too.

Interesting to see Jimenez smoking a Cohiba in that picture. It's either an old one or he's run out of his usual Barbadian exotica.

Smoking is killing my Dad slowly in front of our eyes. I have hated it all my life it is disgusting and poisonous to smokers and those around them.

That considered,we have no right to stop people smoking outside. There is no way that smoking in the open air can hurt anybody but the smoker and anyone who wants to curtail their completely legal right is utterly wrong.

Get some perspective for Gods sake!

I have to admit to being one of the purified. I quit cold from up to 100 a day (mostly duty frees) so have no sympathy for anyone who says they can't quit; they don't want to. I now hate smoking (loathe cigar smoke and always have).

That said, smoking on a course should be ok, so long as you take your rubbish (butts, packets etc) home with you (and you're down wind of me).
