Club Champs tomorrow, I've been looking forward to it all week. I'm out at 830 with Homer. There is a cut after tomorrow so hopefully we'll get through to Sunday.

Wish us luck!!!

For goodness sake don't three putt the first green, you'll never recover. And on approach shot don't let the thought of a shank enter your conscious thoughts.

Apart from those two warnings, enjoy yourself.

I never 3-putt or hit shanks, thanks for the advice though. Great teacher you must be

Our club champs is limited to 7 handicap and under.

I am always staggered that this is not the case elsewhere.

We have fifteen odd playing off two or less. One of them will win it.

Handicap champion? What's the point? You are either club champion, or not. Who gives a monkeys about a 20 odd handicapper mincing about the club house calling himself the champ? Doesn't wash. There is one club champ, and he shot the lowest gross. End of.

You're a miserable git sometimes Murph :ears:

I do agree with you, club champ is lowest gross, but some of us will never win that, will probably never win the h'cap version but it doesn't stop me trying. If you're not gonna have a h'cap club championship, why bother have h'cap medals all year round?

Gone off you.

Hawkeye... you can do iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit

steady and slow wins the race, just not too slow or you will get moaned at for slow play :D

Homer, ye of little faith. you have been waxing lyrical about good play for a few weeks now. No swing thoughts and just give it your best shot

Our club championahip is 36 holes on the same day. Handicap limit of 15. Can enter if higher but will be bumped off for lower hanicappers if not enough tees.

This year there was about a 20 person reserve list.

Hmm.

Ours is 8 days away. I shan't be playing, nor would I waste the entry fee.

However, I do think the event is best when the field is open to all comers, some players like to try and get in the top 10 gross score.

Great sense of humour Patrick, I don't think, for someone who purports to be a golf teacher.

Best of luck the two of you and remember, you cant win it today so play well, dont take too many risks and make sure that you get through to Sunday, but most of all, enjoy it!

Ours is today, 36 holes, men and women, we have a nett prize too as we dont have many low handicappers in the ladies section, so thats what I am going for. Hope I last out the 36 holes.

For us mortals it gives us a chance to play the course at it's toughest. Having a handicap prize means we get the chance to play under a little perceived pressure in a two day event - something we'd never get otherwise in strokeplay.

I was in the top few last year and it was nice to know that every shot was more important than usual.

It's not hurting the better players, as they've long finished by the time us hackers shamble back to the clubhouse, but it makes for a better atmosphere around the club.

About 90 of us followed the 7 hole playoff last year and I think it made for a better experience for both the eventual winner and runner up, as well as those of us who wanted to watch some decent golf played by amateurs on our own course.

It gets everyone who is vaguely serious or better at the club at the same time once a year and that can't be a bad thing.

Absolutely spot on!

The one weekend of the year when course is in 'Tournament Mode' for everyone.

Club Champion should always be the best scratch result, though I have played at a club that barely recognised scratch comps!
