After watching last nights Open finale , which was superb! I was thinking...

Why do the organisers of major events (R&A, USPGA) allow the 'shouting' of ridiculous things after players have played their stroke. The incident on 18 with Mr Woods was to me, unacceptable. It was done prior to him striking the ball!

Should these "shouters" be publically ostracised, and then removed form the remaining tournament? Possibly, even a ban from events?

Personally, I think it brings nothing to the game and just shows the mentality of certain 'supporters'. If they were there to support, why on earth would you shout on a players down swing?

Manners cost nothing.

What happened with Woods is possibly one of the worst cases I've seen. Guy should have been ejected and banned from future events. Which in reality would be impossible to implement unless they want to ID check everyone on entry.

The thing is there are events, like the Waste Management at TPC Scottsdale, that encourage this kind of behaviour. You can't have it both ways.

It's not going to be before long that I can see some knuckle head shouting 'miss' when a player is about to make a tournament winning putt on the 18th. It might actually need something like that to happen before the powers that be start clamping down on it.

All i know is that it does seem to be getting worse and starting to happen more on the European tour now when it used to be predominantly a PGA tour phenomenon.

Hard to remove spectators from the course for shouting after a shot. I hate it and it's really terrible to hear it, but hard to come up with objective reasons to ban these people.

On the other hand though, any personal abuse (plenty on the US tour) or shouts before the ball is hit should not be tolerated and the offender immediately removed.

They should be 'kettled' into a separate area, made to wear 'I am moron' shirts and water cannoned if they repeat the offence.

It's stupid, it's wrong, and unfortunately creeping into the European spectators more and more in recent events. Make all the events ticket only, eject the idiots that behave in this manner and put them on a black list preventing them from buying tickets to future events.

What makes me smile is these
“ shouters” must play the game. If so what kind of golfers are they. If someone shouted/ a PP shouted summat in me downswing they would be wearing me driver. Dont get me wrong. When Melly has bladdered one down the middle i might shout Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeef when it has landed but ignorance has no place in the game. It needs something done before it becomes the norm.

Shouting during someone's swing should result in that person being identified and removed from the course. Banning them from future events might be difficult, but you'd hope that missing out on half a day of golf that they paid a decent whack for might prevent them making the same mistake in the future.

A friend was watching and there were a lot following Woods and that’s where most of the morons shouting were , he said you could hear them all over the golf course and you knew when Woods had played with the shouts after - makes Molinaris round even more impressive. The shout on 18 was poor and he should be kicked out but Woods should have been happy as it helped his drive stay straight

It’s the sort of behaviour you see at each us event and they even encourage it at that drinking fest at Phoenix so the idiots think it’s the Norm

You don’t see it at he British Masters or PGA or both the Irish and Scottish Open

I think in the instance we all saw yesterday, the Woods one, the player should be able to re-take the shot with no penalty. Should be a simple enough rule to bring in. Why should the player be punished for that?

I think that at every hole they should have spotters looking out for these morons, once identified they should be given a warning and if they continue then be asked to leave the event.

I have no time for them, and they spoil it for others who behave respectfully.

Like the idea. However it could take weeks to play a round at the phoenix open :D:D:D:D:D:D

I can't really work out what the shouter gets out of it - are they that desperate to be heard on the tv, so they can watch the replay later on and proudly declare "that was me shouting inane rubbish".
Maybe it's an age thing but i just don't see the point

Actually, that is part of the course and group marshalls' job. Don't now how it is handled in the Open, but when I volunteered at an LET even, we were told that we should take a mental note of the offenders and talk to them later (either on the way down the fairway if they were following the group or after the players left if they stuck around a specific hole) and politely advise them to not do it again. And if they kept disturbing the players, we could call security to guide them off the course (I did not see that happening, though). They are paying guests, so you try to be as friendly and polite as possible with them, but when they keep misbehaving, they are discreetly removed.

And how is that going to encourage the next generation of golfers?????

I suggest we put them in stocks, then set up a stand in the big tents were kids can practice hitting a stinger at them from 20 yards out.

I say kids, let a few youths have a go as well, and for particularly bad offenders get the molitors and top flites out.

Then bundled into helicopter that flies over the sea at about 25 feet but a mile out. Then just kick them out.
If they make it back, they may not do it again.
If they don't, they won't.:whoo:

I'm guessing the bloke on 18 probably won't be doing it again after the crowd reaction. I'd expect he felt like the tool he was and wanted the ground to swallow him up quick as those around him gave him stick.
