What would your perfect playing partner have in terms of his/hers best ability.

Would you rather them be short off the tee and always in the fairway, or on the flip side long and sometimes wild.
Better long game than short or vise versa, a good putter or consistent irons.

We'd all like someone long and always in the fairways with a good short game and a great putter....I'd also like to win the lottery, but neither is likely.

Would you prefer someone with a similar game to yourself or the complete opposite.

Someone with a nice rhythmical swing that doesn't hit it into the next county. Sometimes play with a 70 year old who plays off 4 and just makes the game look so easy. Seem to play well with him and even manage to catch his tempo sometimes.

I guess thats an excuse we can both use for prior games Richard, we were both out of our comfort zone!:D

Given a choice I would prefer to play with someone with a nice touch around the greens. I play with a couple of lowish H/Cers who look like they are having a fit when they are chipping, try and lean every putt in and use the putter from some heavy lies through fear of the wedge. I find it very distracting especially when they get one or two close as I begin to doubt what I do!

Not worried about distance but do get a bit annoy when constantly looking for balls.

Given a chance I would decline the opportunity to play with myself, I constantly do though!!

My 4BBB partner and i have been in our knockout final 4 times out of the last 5 so we obviously play well together

We tried playing 4somes a couple of times and it was a nightmare

basically we were hitting shots from places we'd never ever been before - he doesnt know what a fairway is, and hitting wedges 100 yards out of the rough to 2 ft is not in my armoury but surpsiingly common for him

Any one whose swing is not pig ugly. Handicap does not matter, but I hate watching ugly swings. Lucky I don't have a mirror really.

Other than that, some one who knows when to shut up, not comment on my swing, etc.

Some one who doesn't say 'that's in' when I hit my putt. I hate that. Makes me want to stick my putter up somewhere painful.

Don't mind really - I'll play with anyone who is half competent with their clubs and is good company..........which is why I still can't quite figure out how I end up partnering JustOne in matches against Smiffy and Leftie!!!

In matchplay pairs, a partner who doesn't leave 17 out of 18 puuts short, and the other is 6 ft past and a 3 putt.

Are you listening, Andy.............

Quite happy with the one I have. No change that - mega happy. Consistant, decent short game, good temperamnet and so doesn't lose it when I'm having the usual mare and always in contention on most holes. It allows me to swing with more freedom and so if I do have a day it clicks and can use the shots I get means we are usually pretty tough to beat. In truth, the only defeat we had in the Volvo was probably down to us lacking a killer instinct rather than playing poorly and then being victim to a one off fluke on the 19th

My normal partner has pretty much the same game as me, just a little worse in each department.

For some reason though we mostly have different good and bad holes. Nothing to do with our games or anything like that, I've no idea why really.

It's not uncommon for us to be over 40pts in a 4BBB and neither of us play to our full handicaps let alone the 3/4 we play in pairs comps. We came second once with 43pts, he'd played to his and I was about 5 over. Just each scoring on the right holes.

He would be ultra competetive, but with a cool, calm temperament, good rhythm to his swing and his weakness would be his putting to make me feel better about mine ;)

In fact, if we are answering our ideal partner for competitions, then mine would be Gary, every, single, time. ;)

Whatever standard I prefer a playing partner who is steady and is in the game at nearly every hole. Always better when you have 2 goes at the win/half. One thing for me is that if we are playing a match and my partner is getting more shots than me he uses his shots carefully and doesn't try to birdie holes where bogey (net par) will probably win the hole.

my perfect partner would be a guy from our club who has the best short game i have ever seen, his overall game isn't that great but he's always down the middle and in and around the green is unreal,it's actually frustrating to watch especially if you are playing him at matchplay.

My ideal partner would be someone who could chip in accurately from anything 100 yards in. Played the same pairing twice in a betterball and greensomes and both times it was that element that knocked me and my partner out.

Basically he always had a putt for a par / birdie or a win depending on the format. In the greensomes they took the other guys drive 9 times out of 10 (even though he was often shorter or in a worse position) just on the basis that this guy knew he could put it close for a decent score.

I can't recall him being more than 6 foot away with just about every chip he had in so the putts they left we always makable

They went onto win one of the comps and were runners up in the other so no shame in loosing to them but it was certainly and education playing with them.

for me they perfect partner is one i can have a laugh with, nothing worse than a 4 ball with no banter and i always play my best golf when im enjoying the laugh on the way round.
