The reason I say this is that last weekend it was due to rain in Leeds from Lunch time, so I got up early and tee'd off at 0650 and not a bit of rain, we finished and went home and it didn't bloody rain until 1600 Sunday!! I have booked my tee off time for Sat and it says heavy rain, baring in mind it says the same for today yet not a drop! I have come to the conclusion that I will play no matter what the weather, no one or any type of weather is going to stop me playing my weekly (much dreamed about) round of golf.

p.s. I may not play if its lightening or heavy snow.

Rant over...

The Beeb are the worst offenders - blinkin' useless.

Great if you want to look back over what the weather was earlier or yesterday (whoopiedoo!). Other than that, like the rest of their confusing revamped website....a load of p00.

Hi Guys

Heres one us greenkeepers use, its pretty good in my opinion, I also use it for my disease prediction so I can time my spray applications to the most effective time (but that wont help you lot hole more putts).

Anyway whats the big deal its only a bit of water, we have to work out in it regularly. I love it when its P1ssing down and the Lady Captain asks if I'm gonna close the course when they are due to play a medal, just saying "No" with a smile really makes my day.

Agree - the Beeb are a nightmare. The amount of times I have checked on a Friday to be told its going to pish down on Saturday and make / change your arrangements accordingly, then find that Micheal Fish must have been on duty that day is staggering.

Hopefully, rain will hold off at Aldenham this weekend :)

MW - is that the one with the extra 9 hole 'white' course?

It was on our shortlist when we looking about. When we told them we didn't yet have an h/c they (very courteously) told us to jog on

Fair enough - what's that old Marx line about any club willing to have me as a member?

Can I share your rant parmo?
My issue with the weather presenters (standing in front of a virtual screen waving hands in the manner of an air hostess does not make a forecaster) is that they don't know where we are. We get lumped in with East Anglia, South East, East Midlands seemingly on a whim (hence my location - Middle Earth) so the 'guess of the day' is rarely close to being right.

I've just checked Beeb, Metcheck and Greencast - all different in some way or another!

best weather forecast ever , look out your window,

Not so good when you are booked in for 0650 tee off and need to cancel due to heavy rain, they do not like 30 minutes notice, I like to keep them sweet so usual try and give least as much notice as pos.

Vis, feel free dude

Greengrass - great link - you are talking here to a weather forecast junkie - another one to digest (and disregard!)
If you want to play, you want to play.

Billy G, yeah that's the one. Its a tough little 9 holer as well.

When did you try to join up there? The only reason I ask is that the club has had a bad rap over the last few years amongst other courses in the area.

I, like you, was looking around and covered off the usual suspects in the area, but having seen and played Aldenham really liked the course. I heard that a shedload of members had defected due to the poor state of pretty much everything in terms of greens, fairways, etc. In fairness to the proprietor, she has spend a substantial amount of money on getting the course back to a really good standard - employed a golf course consultant, changed the greens staff. Now I am so looking forward to spring when the course will be coming back to its best.

I have heard from local guys that there is going to be an influx of new members with the new season who appear to be a bit discruntled with their own course (obviously I won't mention name).

I have been under the impression that Aldenham are now looking for members (probably to help the proprietor recoup her investment), so much so that my regular guests have both just paid up on a Winter Deal that allows them to play during the week and on a Saturday pm - all for £50. Not bad.
And they will become full members hopefully in the new season.

For what its worth, I think Aldenham is a fantastic course that any local golfer could do worse than have a look at.

The only thing that does bug me however - and I don't know if this is similar on other courses - are the idiots (be they members or paying punters) who think its ok to not replace their divots or leave a pitch mark the size of a small crater on the greens. I mean, how much effort does it take to pick your divot up or bend down and repair your pitch marks.

It really is inexcusable and makes me fume.

I played Aldenham once, and found it ok. I joined West Herts though, which I prefer, and it also has more of a 'club' feel to it.

That said, WH has gone down hill I think in the last two years.
