The Masters 2026

Two rounds of 72 gets it done from here. Two rounds in the 60s and we're into record winning margin territory.

  • Nobody else has managed to average better than -3 a round over the first two days, and simple probability suggests that the top scorers on day1/2 are very unlikely to be the top ones on day 3/4.
  • The course isn't going to be made any easier over the weekend. With a 65 and a 66 being shot yesterday, there's no way they'll be lobbing the water on.
  • So combine these and it's pretty unlikely anyone else gets to -12

That said, it's impossible to be bogey-free for 36 holes round a firming-up Augusta (and it's going to be pretty difficult to be double-bogey free) so the only way to shoot a pair of 72s or better is to continue hunting birdies rather than go defensive. Rory is also in the perfect psychological position to keep going positively and not tensing up; last year of course was the complete opposite.
Well it turned out you were spot on that two rounds of 72 would have got it done! I think id have preferred a round in the 60’s and a round of 72, but it was interesting!

Rory won his two Masters after the damage by that massive storm before the ‘25 Masters where they lost all of those trees — he missed so many fairways this week and he wasn’t penalised for it like he once would have been - and SHOULD be, when one is so wayward…

His lack of driving accuracy yet his ultimate success doesn’t, honestly, reflect well on the supposed greatest Major

As a pal of mine says “ it’s the same for everyone”. And it could be a classic example of “drive for show putt for dough” 👍

Totally understand it’s the same for everyone 👍🏻

But IMO no one who’s stats are near the very bottom of driving accuracy should be winning the thing 🤷🏻‍♂️

Rory is THE bomber. His distance IS a skill. But IMO the best course in the world should test all parts of this game

😂😂

Would that have been the same for the likes of Rose , Young and Scheffler who hit trees and then bounced out

Bitterness is strong 😂

I know a lot of people don’t like a lot of the rules etc at Augusta but I think it works well as a major.
It is a bit different to the average course you see week in week out and is also different in a lot of ways to the other majors.
With so many holes that can see either bogey or birdie it normally provides plenty of drama as well.

I think any other player apart from Rory would not of won if they had to play from some of the places he had to play from.
Scrambling and his ability to make up for his poor drives are also a skill.

You said it was over after day 2?!
And? It absolutely should've been but Rory decided to keep it interesting for us, which was nice of him.

They put up a stat that said Scottie was the first man to go bogey-free on the weekend since 1942! Unbelievable! Just needed a couple more putts to drop and it would've been his.
