Well it turned out you were spot on that two rounds of 72 would have got it done! I think id have preferred a round in the 60’s and a round of 72, but it was interesting! Two rounds of 72 gets it done from here. Two rounds in the 60s and we're into record winning margin territory.
- Nobody else has managed to average better than -3 a round over the first two days, and simple probability suggests that the top scorers on day1/2 are very unlikely to be the top ones on day 3/4.
- The course isn't going to be made any easier over the weekend. With a 65 and a 66 being shot yesterday, there's no way they'll be lobbing the water on.
- So combine these and it's pretty unlikely anyone else gets to -12
That said, it's impossible to be bogey-free for 36 holes round a firming-up Augusta (and it's going to be pretty difficult to be double-bogey free) so the only way to shoot a pair of 72s or better is to continue hunting birdies rather than go defensive. Rory is also in the perfect psychological position to keep going positively and not tensing up; last year of course was the complete opposite.
And I think he will win Spoty again this year.Rory shot 73 on the final day last year and tied for the lead. He won.
Rory shot 73 on day 3 this year and is tied for the lead.
I think he will win.
Who cares about that anymore though? And I think he will win Spoty again this year.
Who cares about whether anyone cares about it?Who cares about that anymore though?
