The Masters 2026

I have got Berger and Greyserman in the club sweepstake. Prizes 1 -5 so not hopeful that I will get anything back. Might get last before cut or last after cut if I am really lucky :ROFLMAO:
There is 6 of us who each put in £10 for each major.
Any winnings are kept for our Xmas get together.
You each pick a player and it’s £5 each way on each one.
They are not big golfing fans so they tend to just pick someone they have heard of, we normally end up with blokes who won it once in 1983 but keep getting invited back.
This year we seem to of done a bit better and have

Justin Rose
Tommy Fleetwood
Scottie
JJ Spaun
Ludo Aberg
Adam Scott

Please don’t let Freddie Couples or Mike Weir win it 🤣

Sick of seeing that Jason Day clobber

Pure marketing gimmic
Does many people buy this stuff? I've seen the odd bit of Malbon clothing down at the golf club, but very little.

I can't help but like the ridiculous bird jacket thing Day is wearing. Would I wear it? Nope. And I think if anyone down the club wore it, they would get get torn to shreds. But in terms of watching a pro on the tele, I think it is quite fun.

Think the way they price it they don’t need many people buying it but just the right audience to buy into it.

Would I buy it? No but that’s only because it’s so bloody expensive.

I don’t mind garish or outlandish outfit. I like seeing people show personality and the money he gets to wear it can’t blame him and he tends to pull it off pretty well.

Some of their gear is class tbf but it's so expensive.

I think they accidently pushed the envelope one masters and now do it every year and tbf it gets people talking

I occasionally do some stats for this. Here's a few general pointers for choosing a winner:
  • Since 1990 only 7 players have won after missing a cut in any of their last 3 events before The Masters (Crenshaw, Faldo, O'Meara, Olazabal, Weir, Immelman, Cabrera)
  • No winner since 2009 has missed a cut in any of their last 3 appearances (Cabrera)
  • Only 4 players since 2009 have won without making a top 10 finish in any of their last 3 appearances (Mickelson, Schwartzel, Garcia, Rahm)
  • Only 10 players since 1990 have won after finishing outside the top 20 in their last competition (Woods, O'Meara, Singh, Woods, Johnson, Mickelson, Schwartzel, Scott, Willett, Rahm)
  • Only 6 players since 1990 have won when being outside the top 25 in the World Rankings (Olazabal, Crenshaw, Johnson, Immelman, Cabrera, Schwartzel

Stats

  • Tricky as there's a few LIV players (& Patrick Reed from DP) so I dont have all the comparable stats, so they've got no numbers - although I suspect they are in the top bracket. I have included LIV players last 3 finishes...
  • Ive removed anyone with a Missed Cut from the past 3 starts. Arguably you could leave out anyone who withdrew too but Mcilroy and Morikawa have been left in.
  • Ive included most important stats, esepcially SG Tee-to-Green, Approach and Par 5 scores, which are all massive at the Masters. SG Putting is in, but this can be super variable and especially so at The Masters.

This leaves the following players. Take your pick - I'd go for Aberg. Not on the list but if you want a decent bet on a top 10 - Hisatsune (not on the list as he's ranked 55). I'd say this is fairly wide open this year, especially with Rory and Scottie being injured/not playing so well.

All six of the guys I've backed are actually in this. So that suggests you don't know what you're talking about. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
