The Masters 2026

1) As someone said above, Mickelson’s shot is the one for me

2) Rory’s 2nd at 15 (though I massively wanted Rosie to win) last year

3) And what about a shot I only have seen in clips, and never within the context of the round, Larry Mize’s chip on 11 to defeat Greg in a playoff - and it was blooming well in a playoff!

In terms of the shot alone and nothing else, then Mickelson's was incredible. But... the fact that he didn't make the putt for eagle kind of dampens it a bit imo.

The spectacular shots are very impressive, because they are, well, spectacular. Yes, they are.

They are undeniably impressive to me and everyone.
But they are not my "favourite" shots.

Bubba, Lyle etc - yes they were crucial to the "win", but such shots are just one of many shots over the 4 days. All 280 or so shots have some importance to the final result.
Bubba should not have put his ball in the bushes and Lyle should have avoided the bunker on the 18th.

10 years before Lyle I saw something quite fantastic on the final day.
The leaderboard after the third round looked like this.

Seve was on his debut and the final day was his 21st birthday! Faldo and Lyle were yet to make an appearance at Augusta.
He was paired with Gary Player for that final round. Gary was twice his age.

On the 18th, Player had a similar second shot that Lyle would have 10 years later, but Player was on the fairway.
Player's ball landed just like Lyle's would do, but Player's ball did not roll back as much. He was faced with a longer putt down the slope.
Player had birdied 6 of the previous 9 holes to get in contention from 7 shots behind at the start of the day..
He made the putt. He was 7-under for his final 10 holes. Final round of 64.
That putt remains my favourite shot.
It did not seal the win for him at that moment.
The leaderboard looked like this.

A playoff looked likely.
Watson or Green making a birdie to win looked even more likely.

His final putt summed up sport for me. Player had done just about the best he could possibly do - win or lose.
He could not celebrate - he had to remain prepared for a playoff.

But it proved to be the putt that won him the title by one shot. Just like Lyle would do 10 years later.

Thats the one that springs to mind for me.

I just watched the 1982 Masters film, where Craig Stadler did all he could to lose the tournament on the back 9. On the par 3 16th, he hit it over the green into a bunker. The flag wasn't too far from the bunker, but with the downhill slope immediately after the hole, it was a near impossible shot.

Stadler tickles the ball out of the bunker and it rolls towards the hole and so very nearly drops. It was an incredible shot... and just when the ball looks like it has stopped a few feet past the pin, it just trickles a bit. And then a bit more, and a bit more, and then it has gone all the way down to the bottom of the hill.

I was honestly thinking halfway through the shot 'how is this not shown on all of the highlight reels?!' :ROFLMAO:
