Recently i have just had my swing speed measured and have had my clubs made to suit my game by ping.with my new set up it must of added 50 yards plus.I was using regular shafts with a 91 mph swing speed and was slicing most shots when i used my natural swing so i had a lesson with a pro at my local club and he spotted the problem straight away saying that regular shafts are for 60 mph swings and that i need stiff clubs.Hope this helps and any comments welcome

91mph with which club?

welcome to the forum:thup:

I played regular shafts for 25 years with a fast swing and single figs, friend is +1 and plays regular shafts in everything, there are other contributing factors to the intricate golf swing and its not set in stone that a certain swingspeed needs a certain stiffness, its an indicator of what might be more suitable but some reg shafts play 'stiffer' than some stiff shafts due to the torque, kick points, weight etc etc
However very slow swing speeds definitly benefit from whippier lighter shafts.

yeah i have just got the i20 irons and i was given the 7 iron to try with all my custom shafts i have fitted for my self is the kbs tour pro shafts with white grips (which is standard)

If your pro has said that Regular are designed for 60 MPH swing speeds then I would not ever listen to a thing he has to say again. That swing speed is Lady/Senior shafts. Regular shafts are fine for a 91 MPH swing speed. Also telling you hitting it right is caused by your shafts being to whippy is wring also, I may be wrong here but the natural thing is to hit it left, for most people if the shafts are too whippy for you. That is what I have always been told and read in the past.

Added 50 yards plus? That seems a lot to me? How far were you hitting clubs before custom fitting because it cant of been that far.

thanks useful to know especially if he is a +1. Im not trying to say that to get good you need custom iron from my experience it has enhanced my game no end and thanks for the welcome :)

hi yeah ano what your saying and your probaly right but for some reason with my old clubs i started slicing it when i normaly draw it and when i used the heavier shaft my draw came back he said it was something to do with the club head being in a better position when stricking the ball cause for my personal swing i needed a heavier shaft so the club head came through better or something like that but yeah it was probally my swing tbh but it seems to have been fixed and im getting the desiered results ha :)

I think the 91mph is referring to a 7 iron Adey, which is well into stiff I'd have thought.

As for left or right, I'd have said a little bit too soft and the head will come past the shaft too quickly and will be pointing left at impact, BUT if it's way too soft then it might not catch up at all and be pointing right at impact.
I don't know that for a fact, just trying to think about it logically.

thats what i got told that the club did not have time to catch up when coming into the contact with the ball im not saying its correct but what i have been told

Pretty much spot on, for most a too soft shaft will go left but for a few it will go right.

Welcome to the forum, as you can understand this topic has been discussed in just about every way possible. I am fully custom fitted for my clubs and it gives me confidence and to be honest something to play about with from time to time as a hobby within a hobby but I would think a good golfer could play with anything. That said, I change my mind on the subject once a month, sometimes 100% pro fitting and sometimes 100% against it.

Where you from, where do you play and how good are you? I wont ask your age as I already know you are very old.....

If you have a 91mph swing speed with a 7 iron then you don't need a stiff shaft, you need a scaffolding pole! For a club golfer, anything over 80 mph with a short/mid iron is a very powerful swing.

All I can think is that you are really thrashing at the ball :one:
