The Halfway Hut - An oasis or an unwelcome distraction?

I disagree. I enter comps to play and try and get cut and so I'd be miffed if I was going well and had to hang around for 15 minutes, especially if the 10th is a tricky driving hole. I'd hope my PP's would be considerate enough to see I was doing well and allow me to carry on and see if I could finish it off

Theres one at Hillside, if your playing well we might stop for 15 minutes just to put
you off your stride.
You cant think of yourself in a 4 ball you go with the majority decision.
Does NGT not deal with outside agencies that can effect a round? and how to deal
with them.

14 Pages wow :(

I like 'em by the way, But I am a big fan of Bacon, bread, and sitting down even if it does mean sacrificing being in "the zone"

I can talk about this knowledgeably I have more skill and knowledge when it comes to bacan baps than I ever will at golf

I believe you have to stop at Hillside for ten mins Tony - that's worth an extra point to you it seems :D

Halfway huts serve a purpose and I would suggest the majority use them, Hawkeye's point is all about slow play and the game in general, your point just seems to be about you, what if 2 of your PP's were playing just as well and wanted to stop?

You have a couple of options then....

1, join them and have a brew if the other 2 want to stop

2, take your head out of your jacksie and realise it isn't all about you

There's one at mine, they come and take your order when playing then it tends to be eat and drink on the move unless going is slow.

It really is not a problem to be aware of what's going on around you and behave/react accordingly.

I like to stop at the halfway hut, and have a drink and a bacon roll. If group in front have also stopped then we take our time, as they are often just teeing off as we get to the hut. If group in front have not stopped we may eat on the run. Sometimes if we have a faster group behind we take our time and let them through. Tend to judge stopping time by groups around us. Not too difficult to sort out, and must admit I have never had any problems in my years at Blackmoor.

Our halfway hut is superb, and the bacon rolls are to die for. Katie was serving on Sunday (), and as she had to cook the bacon from scratch, we all teed off and then picked up the rolls and ate on the hoof. Not my preferred way but didn't want to hold up group behind. I did have to have a bit of a chat with her though, and get her phone number. All in the name of Help For Heroes, as she is going to make us a special H4H cake.

Did she also get your autograph for her Gran ? She must be a Leo fan ?

Not at all. If one of my PP's was going like a train and didn't want to stop, I'd definitely be happy to carry on and wouldn't dream of insisting we stop for 10-15 minutes just to have a cuppa and something to eat just to "support" the club and because it's supposedly the done thing. I'm there to play golf and support my club in lots of ways without the need to have to stop and use the halfway hut.

As it happens, with the state of my game, by the time I get to the one at Hillside I'll probably take refuge and tray and get some form of religious or political sanctuary so I don't have to suffer another embarrassing nine holes. Can't see it being the same issue there. My game isn't great and travels as badly as Fulham

If my playing partners enjoyed a break, a coffee and a bacon bap at the halfway point then I would happily join them irrespective of my score and would not even mention my wishes as it may guilt them out of what may be something they really enjoy. The score is not everything. I have seen a bloke in the group ahead stand on his own on the next tee taking practice swings and chipping whilst the others had a cuppa but appatently he had been too in the zone to talk to them all the way round

You only tend to find them at nice courses anyway so I am happy to oblige.

That reminds me, I haven't played Royal Allerton in a while.

You didn't answer the question, if you and 2 of your PP's were going like a train and THEY wanted to stop, would you support them or insist on getting your own way?

Cup of de-caf tea and a homemade chocolate brownie bought from ours today. Ordered as we were approaching the ninth green. Putted out, quick visit to the ladies, collect said items and back on our way. Perfect:)

Would have had a bet that he would have been the one with the worst score in the group

Have played with a few people who don't wish to get involved in the on course chat and banter in fear of it distracting their concentration ?! Only to watch them scratch it around nowhere near HC - you only have to look at the way the pros chat to each other as they are walking around

Played in a scratch match against 15 year old kid who informed me that he would only be talking to his caddy ( his dad ) during the round as he helps him focus !!!

It's a social game and some don't realise that
