Oh-oh! 2 new threads in one day. People will be talking again:mmm:

Still, what the heck...

Does yours have one and if it does do you like / use it? By that I mean in competitions specifically.

We have a nice one situated just between our 9th green and 10th tee. The perfect spot you say and you'd be right. And it's a very welcome sight indeed when playing friendly roll ups and bounce games. Just the job. Nom! Nom! Nom! as the internet savvy put it.

However it's always open at weekends and that means when participating in a comp you have no option but to avail yourself of a bacon sarnie etc. not unless you ask to play through the group in front (frowned upon).

When having a 'mare' then the hut is perfectly acceptable and sometimes allows you to refocus and maybe aim for the buffer if all's not lost. But if you're "in the zone" and "shooting the lights out", then (for me at least) I could do without the 10 minute break and the possible tensing up and going off the boil that it can lead to.

But, what about you?

Over the collective...

Hate them with a vengeance if you have to wait for something, if you can just pick up and walk on then fine, but having to wait for food/service is just another reason for slow golf!

During a comp I wouldn't want to stop and wait for a bacon bap (that's a pre round treat) but my old club had a slow cooker with great soup which I used to enjoy a cup of as i walked down the 10th /11th.
However if those on a comp don't want to wait, they should not be frowned upon if they want to carry on and play through. I'd want that made clear by your committee

No half way house my new club- maybe this might help the waistline!
(I do appreciate a half way loo though)

I like them, its a nice facility/option to have.
However, I don't want to sit down and start discussing the price of fish for 20mins when I've got a good score going.

I like to just get what I need and move on.

This is in a comp' of course.

We don't have one but going from the 8th green to the 9th tee you have to walk past the clubhouse so we have a hatch that you can get a bacon sandwich, coffee etc, most people who want food phone it in on the 8th tee so it's ready to collect on the way past so it's no problem.

I mainly play Sunday morning, almost everyone uses the halfway house so you simply factor a 10 min break into your round, what's not to enjoy - Golf + a bacon roll !!

I like the idea of them but ours is only open on Saturdays and causes a typical 10 minute wait to get on to the next tee which can be very annoying.

Our course (Batchworth Park) is designed as two loops of nine holes, so the clubhouse acts as a halfway hut. The nicest proper halfway hut I know of is at Sandy Lodge Golf Club. Having a few minutes break with light refreshments during a round is generally a good thing in my opinion, but adds to the total round time. :mmm:

I don't have an issue with them, in fact they can be very welcome if you need a hot or cold drink in winter/summer.

However, I would take umbrage with the group in front if they expected me to wait while they stop. I would politely say 'Don't mind if we carry on?' and walk to the tee.

Coombe Hill's sausages and onions.

Royal Dornoch's has malt whiskies.

Clitheroe has a phone-through option on the tee.

Does anyone else collect napkins, like me?

Think Hillside has it spot on with a sign asking you to take a 10 min break even if you are not using the halfway hut.

I think this is compulsory in some places South Africa springs to mind. Really don't understand the logic. What if there is an empty course in front of you, do you have to stand staring at your watch for 600 seconds before you can tee off?

I like the idea for an occasional change - loved my hot dog at Castle Stuart.

But wouldn't like to be forced to wait there - that Hillside idea sounds bonkers.

My club doesn't have one but I have played at clubs that do and I think they are great. The best have the ability to either phone the hole before or if it is an up and down one you place your order before your tee shot and collect on the next hole when you pass it again. Minimal waiting around. On each occassion if you partake then you simply waved others through and slotted in when you were ready. All very civilised.

like them and use when available but they need to put used properly unfair to stand around drinking and eating if the group behind wants to keep moving.

We don't have one at Cooden but if I play East Brighton I always like to stop and have a bite to eat.
Their toasted sausage and onion sandwiches are superb, and well worth stopping for.
I had a dog roll at another forum members halfway hut once.
Almost made me puke.
It was terrible.

We have one between 9 and 10. When you're going up the fairway they'll come and take your order to sort it while you're chipping or 3 putting (sometimes both for me!).

I don't like stopping for too long though sooner just crack on. Wouldn't hold anyone up if they went having anything and wanted to play through.

You go past ours twice! does a decent bacon butty, but rarely have one. Will grab a bottle of pop or a coffee if its cold! West berks i think a stop is mandatory, doesnt work as the back nine clogs up to hell on busy days!

We have one and it's a curse but in a different way, I've got so used to having it that when I go elsewhere I don't pick up supplies from the tuck shop before starting so by the 12th I'm rooting around for a long forgotten mars bar!
