Not really. Only about 2 from 3 if a good putter. That is true. On good greens a good putter will sink most 6 footers though

Tour pros are 50/50 from 7ft 10" so if us mere mortals going by a lot a posts are also doing this, then I think distance especially off the is more importantNot really. Only about 2 from 3 if a good putter.
Important to what? Breaking 70? 80? 90?Tour pros are 50/50 from 7ft 10" so if us mere mortals going by a lot a posts are also doing this, then I think distance especially off the is more important
To improving ones golf.Important to what?
Like I said I can shoot 70s at most courses in England with average driving. Can you with poor putting? You can hit it anywhere you like on a course.
but if you knock loads of putts in it can mask a poor long game.
but you need to get on the greens to have any chance of scoring.
so both 50/50 important for me.
Certainly. More easily than you can with poor driving.Like I said I can shoot 70s at most courses in England with average driving. Can you with poor putting?
I think we are mistaking poor driving with short driving.Certainly. More easily than you can with poor driving.
I do most rounds.Like I said I can shoot 70s at most courses in England with average driving. Can you with poor putting?
I wasnt. I did mean poor driving. As in, its easier to shoot in the 70s with average driving and poor putting, than it is with average putting and poor driving.I think we are mistaking poor driving with short driving.
Who's better then?I do most rounds.
I’m basically the opposite of you. A longish game with poor putting.
I play off 2Who's better then?
Strokes Gained is the best measure.Distance is easy to define. But what defines good putting? And how do you get better at it so it constantly makes up for a poor long game?
You must play with good putters then if they are 50/50 from 6 feet. That is true. On good greens a good putter will sink most 6 footers though, most people I play with are about 50/50 from that range.
Putting keeps me In single figures with a long game of a mid handicapper
Touché.I play off 2
King Julian notes that like so many others in this thread weewullie has completely failed to grasp the point being made. It's not about hitting the ball a long way but simply improving your overall distance will brings gains for many.I think some of you guys would learn a lot from watching some high level amateur seniors events. Lots of those guys don't hit the ball any distance at all but they play to very low handicaps. The English seniors balloted out at 3 last year, the British Seniors was +0.4 I think. Not bad for guys that hit the ball 230-240 yards.
Parkstone hold 2 scratch events, the Wimborne cup for men and the Shankland for seniors. Both played off the very back tees, similar course setup etc. The Wimborne was won with level par, the Shankland was won with 2 under. So much for the kids bombing it 300 yards.
