No David Silva
These lists are so subjective and without knowing the requirements to rate players it’s difficult to argue for or against anyone.

No Claude Makelele. So good they named a position after him.
I dont know if Giggs counts as a forward/winger/midfielder but I would imagine he would be in everyone’s top 10 whatever position he was put in.

Its Carragher picking it, so throw a dice for 2-10 as Gerrard was always going to be 1. 🙄

It's for central midfielders and Giggs certainly doesn't qualify there.

Anyway, it's premier league era only

Looks like on Monday nights they are doing top 10’s in Prem

Last night was midfielders

10. Fabregas
9. Rodri
8. Yaya Toure
7. Scholes
6. Kante
5. Lampard
4. Viera
3. De Bruyne
2. Keane
1. Gerrard

IMO I would move Scholes to 5 and then Lampard 6 and Kante 7

There’s different strengths, weaknesses & styles to each player’s games, it’s difficult to create a 1-10 because of that. But hey, let’s give it a go.

At club level I find it very difficult to separate Gerrard & Lampard, similarly Keane & Viera. But, for me, out of that list De Bruyne is number 1. Scholes is underrated, similar in style to De Bruyne but lacking the first touch. I’d put him as high as 3/4. Gerrard & Lampard together at 2/3 - pushes Scholes to 4. Keane & Viera at 6/5.

I as never sold on Rodri. Could be outstanding for weeks, then nondescript for a while. Yaya was immense but is he good enough for 2nd or 8th? And I can’t see Fabregas in the top 10 ahead of David Silva.

To be honest, different days different opposition most of them would get player of the week.

I actually enjoy Carragher doing these top 10 things on MNF, but last night before he started it, straight away I said Gerrard No1.

Sometimes though he concentrates on trophies won to justify including some or international caps etc etc, but he almost down played some of the others achievments last night or emphasised the players they had around them to help his case.

David Silva he said was more of a forward wide player as opposed to a central midfielder which is why he didn’t put him in there

Rodri was outstanding during the season City won the treble

Yaya prob more towards the end of his career but again was key for them initially winning titles

The thing that imo just puts Gerrard above KDB and Keane by a whisker is he could do it all - was just as good as a defensive midfielder as an attacking one , could ping the ball about , could tackle , shoot - there wasn’t anything he couldn’t do , yeah maybe a Touch of bias

Gerrard couldn’t tackle 😭 Sure, he could play deeper, but not in any genuine defensive role. He’d just sit deep and spray 20 Hollywood diagonals into touch.

Lampard is #1 and then it’s up for debate whether you prefer Scholes, Vieira, Gerrard etc.

But Spurs themselves are the least threatening of the 3 sides and haven't won a league game this year....and whilst they seem to be able to rise and put in performances against the big clubs, they have been utterly lacklustre when playing mid table teams and those fighting around them.

Forests downfall may potentially be their Europa league adventure.

I think the difficulty for Spurs might come if the gap stretches to 4 or 5 points in the next couple of rounds of fixtures...not that Spurs' fixtures are unwinnable on paper, just that the mental pressure of trying to make up that gap, even when playing supposedly weaker sides, might be too much.
There's no relegation battle anymore. There are two teams battling to survive and one team where the players simply don't care if they get relegated or not because they all think they're going to leave.

There’s no doubt Gerrard was a fantastic player, but he was justifying his decision on his influence at the Club, with his team mates etc, well straight away that’s unfair as Carragher can’t do that with the others, so it shouldn’t be used as a criteria.

He goes on to say that in the year LPool nearly won the PL under Houlier, it wouldn’t of made a difference if you’d of swapped Gerrard for any other player in the top 10 that season, they still wouldn’t of won the league.😂😂

And that was one of his considerations.

He’d of got more compliments if he’d of been honest and said top 10 midfielders without Gerrard as I’m biased.

It’s just his opinion at the end of the day , don’t expect he was looking for compliments- as with any “list” it’s always going to be down to personal preference as there is no defined criteria

Ask a 1000 people and the answer will spread across multiple players

And our replies to your initial post are just opinions as well.

Difference is, we aren’t doing mental gymnastics to justify our decisions like he did last night.👍🏻

I think my favourite two Man Utd players ever are Scholes and Keane. Both wonderful players, and also Keane for his leadership. Would I swap them for any other player, nope. Therefore, they'd be No. 1 and 2 for me. Of course, I'm also happy to aknowledge there will be bias there. Not just because I support Man Utd, but because I watched them more that players from other clubs, so I know how amazing they were. I'd fully expect many Liverpool fans to have Gerrard at top of list, Chelsea fans Lampard, City fans DeBruyne and Arsenal fans Vieira.

All these lists are fairly meaningless, as they are simply a single person's opinion. We knew who Carragher would pick Number 1, even Gary Neville joked about it when it was first mentioned at the start of MNF.
