Depends who is available now. This time of year, manager options are much more limited as most are in a job, and clubs more likely to fight to keep them. End of season, more options open up.

If the right man is available now, go for it. However, maybe they already believe Parker is the right man, for the Championship?
I’m not saying either way is right and Parker got them promoted last season so maybe they will stick with him.
Is it easier for them to get a better manager while in the premier league though?

He did look good for England. Can't remember who he had around him at the time? Maybe not good enough to be THE central midfielder gluing a team together.
A lot of it may have been down to confidence? Loss of confidence can absolutely destroy a player's performances

Turns up at City, the spotlight is on like it never was at Leeds. Pressure on, as you are expected to win ever game, even if you draw, the knives are out. And he was competing internally with Rodri, who only went on to win the Balon D'Or.

Unless injuries have also played a part, I think his confidence was killed at City, and he has probably felt a failure ever since. Before City, he was very good.

It's always a risk when decent players go to big clubs with talented squads. Some will succeed and reach promised land. Others will fade into the background.

He was a stand out in the 2020 Euros, from the FA site the midfielders taken were:
Midfielders: Jude Bellingham (Borussia Dortmund), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Mason Mount (Chelsea), Kalvin Phillips (Leeds United), Declan Rice (West Ham United)

He shone at Leeds, and was good enough to be picked for England, and good enough to retain his place in that team. City liked what they saw and bought him. Did Phillips fail under the weight of a pricy move, he wouldn’t be the first? Did he not fit into City’s system? Or was he let down by City? Any combination, all three or another reason?

Whatever the reason was, a very good player lost that certain something. Pre-City he was outstanding, post-City he isn’t. I’m not pointing a finger at City, nor am I pointing a finger at Phillips. Sometimes the chemistry fails.

The odd thing with Philips is that he has never found his mojo again. You'd expect him to have shone in some of his loans but sadly it's been more of the same. A real shame, I thought he was excellent at those Euro's championships where he excelled.

Totally agree, even more confusing is like Lord T says, why hasn’t he recovered in any way when given chances at other Clubs?

There’s probably more flops than success’s if we dug into transfers, but sadly for him, he’s a standout.

Team of the season so far? It's a discussion between them and Brentford for me, with Sunderland pipping it. Great effort

I’m a Sunderland fan and it’s been unbelievable season at 36 years old Xhaka is the best player I’ve ever seen for us genuinely world class.

As for Brentford they were the team I was looking at to probably drag into the relegation fight and hopefully finish above. Losing Frank and getting Andrews in as head coach, losing Norgaard Wissa and Mbuemo. Andrews has just carried it on so fair play to their succession planning and also Brentford’s run of Striker signings is absolutely unbelievable from Maupay in the championship to now Thiago they’ve plucked goal scorers out like they’re ten a penny

Then I watched Potters West Ham first game of the season and Forest appointed Ange 😂 Palace now also look like they’re off the rails

It would have been interesting to see what would have become of Phillips of he went to a club where he was a nailed on starter, even a club with a lot of spotlight. Could he have done a really important job at Man Utd in that position? Would he have got into Liverpool's side, or even a Spurs type team?

Man City seem to be a team that just love to keep possession and bore the opposition to death. You need to have very high technical skills for that, or else you stand out like a sore thumb when you lose the ball. Man Utd often have the attititude that when they get the ball, they need to score in the next 5 seconds. Players give away possession a lot (often as they are rubbish, sometime because they are playing those riskier passes). It might have been a style that suited Phillips much more.

Also, did Pep himself destroy Phillips. Was he quite critical publicly of him early on (maybe I'm imagining that)?

Thinking of players that have had huge falls from grace after a big move. Just off the top of my head, I'm thinking Phillips, Drinkwater, Sterling, Carroll, Ali. Grealish a little bit, after the treble season. Foden seems to have a fall from grace about 3 times a season, after a period of great play.

I'm not having Grealish in that group. He was a key part of City's team for a few seasons, won a stack of trophies that he was very much a part of, then had one year where Pep just dropped him.

He's gone to Everton and been superb. Straight away, no messing about. Loved by the fans, talked about for an England recall. No fall from grace there.

Yeah, I wasn't sure about putting him there in all honesty, as I think he has always shown very good technical skiils. And he certainly hasn't plummetted into obscurity like some of the others, and has potential to revive his career at Everton (if he can get back fit and firing).

I guess I was just thinking that he seemed a massive player at Villa, maybe had potential to become a superstar somewhere, but was somewhat diluted at City, albeit he played an important role in at least one very successful season. But, a bit like Foden, his career seemed a bit stop / start at City, rather than being a DeBruyne type that was pretty much a key player at all times in his prime years.

From memory (CBA to Google!) didn't Pep comment on his weight gain after an international duty? Or maybe I'm imagining that. Of course I'm biased but I tend to feel Pep isn't the sort to belittle a player and wreck their confidence. I'd argue it's usually the opposite although he might have a Pep Pop at someone being cocky!!

I vaguely thought of the weight gain comment but, like you, thought it might be imagination. I’m not sure Phillips ever suited Pep’s style of play, nor to a certain extent Grealish’s. Pep’s teams knock it around, passing teams to death whereas Grealish always seems to want to hang onto the ball and draw players in.

You are correct, he did. Having looked it up to clarify, he said Phillips was overweight after returning from the 2022 World Cup

It was just a poor choice from the player , no doubt the chance to increase wages and playing in a team that is winning trophies

He did get injured very early in the season and was out for 10 weeks but after that he was just on the bench in all the games

Not much different to Drinkwater

That’s just rubbish, he’s playing regular football for his Country, one of the best managers’s in the world comes in for you and you say he’s made a poor choice, behave.

Every single footballer in his position would of made the same choice.
