For years I put Man Utd on a par with Real, Barca and Bayern as genuine superclubs. None of those clubs or their fanbases would accept anything close to what Man Utd fans have accepted over the last decade. The fans themselves have to share the blame for letting the owners degrade the club IMO. That's not just a dig, it's also a compliment of the loyal support but the same thing will keep on happening unless the fans step up and demand more.

You can't compare Ole to other managers as he was a club legend and that carries a lot of weight.

The only thing with Carrick is you can't ask for two tougher games really, it might've been better to get them out of the way before making the announcement.

I agree with a lot of what you've said bar the bit in bold. There have been plenty of protests against the owners but the real issue that United have is that the owners just don't care whilst the money rolls in and whilst you will get the hardcore supporters staying away in protest United can probably sell out Old Trafford 2-3 times over with tourists and casual fans so it really doesn't make a difference to the bottom line. The Glazers are persona non grata pretty much so they tend to stay away but again, they don't really care as they don't need to attend to make money. The only thing that would make them sell United* is if it started to cost them money and the only way that I can see that happening would be relegation. It was remarkably close last season but I just cannot see a world where we do get relegated. That's not to say we don't deserve it based on some performances however there are always going to be at least 3 worse sides in the league.

* Actually, there is a second way that they sell United and that's if they get an offer that they cannot refuse. Again, I think this is unlikely as what they want for United is far and away more than the actual value plus the money that would need to be put into after the sale would be eye watering especially if you include the new stadium costs.

I like Gallagher. He is dynamic, a good solid player, and looks like he would give you 100% every time. He was good at Palace, and was he not captain of Chelsea for a while (might have been imagining that)? Played a decent number of games for England, although I guess being out of the limelight a but, and the emergence of Anderson and Wharton have not helped him.

I was also just reminded that Dalot is only 26. I perceived him to be about 32, he has been around for so long. Man Utd could have him for another decade :cry:

He certainly was Chelsea captain for a bit. I like him as well for the exact reasons you’ve described. Good pal of mine is a Spurs fan and he’s not happy with the signing either. He describes it not because they dislike Gallagher but because they feel he’s not what they need with how they’re playing football under Franck and sees it as another high energy pragmatic signing. Whereas he feels they need someone that has more creativity and can bring something they don’t already have, personally I think he will do well and improve their midfield.

Maybe one of the actual Spurs fans on here can shine a light on if it’s what my Pal has told me of if it’s just like all clubs a portion of the fan base just taking a dislike.

It is funny that Spurs fans feel they are going for a player type they do not need (I'll trust their judgement on that, I don't analyse their deficiencies in any detail), whilst it is the type of player Man Utd absolutely need. Yet Man Utd don't seem to be actively looking in that area, potentially part of the reason for the Amorim fall out.

I even heard rumours that if Utd get anyone in this window, they are looking for a winger, having originally been interested in Semenyo. They just don't know what winger they will go for now. If true, we'll be looking to fit Sesko, Cunha, Mbeumo, Bruno and Amad into the same side. Probably will try and get Mainoo in as well. Plus a new winger if we get one. That would be 7 out of the 10 outfield players with no defensive attributes, so they must be content that at least 2-3 of those players will be on the bench at any one time

What we really need is a good winger and a striker who scores goals and isn't constantly injured. I guess fans won't be happy until those needs are met. Gallagher will probably do alright but he's competing with Simons and Bergvall straight away. Whereas on the wings we have Odobert, who's been hit and miss; Tel, who doesn't want to play there he wants to play up front; Kulusevski and Kudus injured; Johnson was sold... Christ, there isn't anyone else.

Would you say Solanke has been a flop?

I heard some people discussing Welbeck's odds for England the other day, and said he has a reasonable chance. They listed who he was up against for 2nd striker, they listed Watkins, Calvert-Lewin, Toney and Solanke. Well, surely can rule out Toney and Solanke immediately. And 4 or 5 years ago, who'd have thought people would be looking at Welbeck or Calvert-Lewiin as members of the 2026 World Cup squad.

I don't know what you say about Solanke? In his last season with Bournemouth he played all 38 league games. Since he joined us he can't stay fit for more than a month. Is that on our medical department? Are they useless? We've had a lot of injuries, but a lot of that was down to Ange's unsustainable playing style as well.

On the England subject - Watkins is still clear second choice despite the underwhelming season so far. Calvert-Lewin deserves to be in the squad on form, but it's not the most enamouring option. He's a bit more of old school forward who feeds off crosses I think? I don't think Welbeck has a look-in really, at his age.

I've mentioned this before, and obviously it depends on his fitness, but I think the player with the nearest skillset to Kane is actually Palmer. If Kane got injured or needed resting I'd be more than happy to see Palmer in a sort of false 9 / complete forward role. That would be the most seamless replacement, in my view.

Then again, Vardy has 5 goals in Serie A this season.. :LOL:

I think Anderson would be a great signing, his performances for England alone are enough for any club to want him.
I havent seen much of Forest lately but when i have seen him him he's the stand out player.

That pretty much sums up what my pal said to me. It just isn’t the player or area that needed strengthening. You seem to create anything from out wide or up top though I don’t know whose out there that could fill those slots.
