Just seen a stat re Bruno Fernandes and his injury record at Utd. He has previously only missed 2 games throughout his Utd career through injury. That is astonishing in this day and age.

He's probably the most underrated player of the last decade or so. He's delivered world class performances and stats from day one. He never seems to get the credit he deserves because he has the odd moan and whine. Fantastic player and will be near impossible to replace in terms of output and reliability.

The Isak goal and the tackle after

Should there be punishment for that tackle which was an attempt to stop the goal but got the player late

I’m a bit late to this, a bit like the tackle, but after reading that Isak had had an operation for the break I’ve watched the tackle.
The defender makes an effort to block the shot, the fact he’s late with the block is immaterial. Nothing wrong with that. However, his trailing leg is what causes the issue. I’m reluctant to call it a scissor tackle in the true sense of the term but it’s damn close, arguably close to that. If the trailing leg had stayed trailing, maybe Isak would have just been clattered. But we’re not talking about maybe’s. The trailing leg came forward and formed the second ‘blade’ of the scissor.

I’m uncomfortable with my interpretation but, equally, there isn’t a classic definition of a scissor tackle. However, scissoring is recognised as very dangerous.

Short version; block attempted, and missed. Trailing leg comes through causing serious injury. If it was the leading leg, straight red. Why not the same for the trailing leg? The player making the tackle is responsible for the consequences.

I genuinely don’t feel competent enough to make a value judgement but to my unskilled eye it’s a red. Whatever, that sort of tackle, action with the trailing leg has to be taken out of the game… Harvey Elliot springs to mind…

I agree that he is an excellent player but 'the odd moan and whine' . Change that to near constant. He and Richarlison would both reach the final of any 'whine off'.

I saw a very amusing clip on Twitter after the Spurs game of the two minute period we were spraying passes around while Spurs were running around like headless chickens and the crowd were chanting “Ole” with every pass. It was sped up, with the Benny Hill theme playing over it.

In fairness, most footballers whine constantly. But, because Bruno is Utd's best player, captain, is involved in nearly every decent move and plays virtually every game, he gets seen doing it a lot. Also very visible as he is the type who is very enthusiastic with arm movement.

I'm not sure he gets booked for dissent much? If he was as bad as people said, he'd probably be booked in the first 20 minutes of every game

He does catch him, but in the context of trying to block the ball, I thought it was more momentum that brought them together.

I know it’s a bug bear for me, but a few years back when Son broke Gomes leg we were told that it was an accident, although Son fouled him, Gomes’s studs caught in the turf and that caused the leg break, Son had the red card rescinded.

Son chased after him and made no attempt to play the ball, Van der Ven made a legitimate challenge to block the shot.

As an Everton fan I can accept not getting given a penalty, but and here’s the issue for me, did the Ref see anything, if not then VAR should send him to the monitor, not decide themselves the kick wasn’t “hard” enough.

If the Ref saw it and waved it away then VAR should not get involved.

I know 99% of players cheat at times, but the Ref then allowed the physio on, so the contact was enough to need treatment.

All very confusing.

Don’t agree with your comment on which direction the players were facing, that’s irrelevant, the coming together was in the box and both are trying to win the ball.

As per my post, I completely agree. Because people see him a lot.

Fans opinions mean little.

I'd be more interested who the team would be if a Premier League referee was picking it. I bet there are some right pesky individuals who play for the smaller clubs.
