And that is why City won’t win the title this year. Kolo Toure been brought in to sort out defence. Shocking.

That said. Flippin eck.

Big win for Everton. Ultimately very comfortable. We need to take more shots, start making something of the possession we have.

O' Brien played at CH and was excellent. May well keep that position now. Dewsbury Hall is turning into one of the buys of the season, for any club. Another commanding game for him.

Two good away wins on the trot, no goals conceded 👍

Got any defenders for sale 😖

Just seen the “ iffy” penalty decision, at no point did the spurs defender look at the ball or try to clear the ball. His sole intention was stopping the Newcastle player from getting to the ball. Penalty for me.
No one is denying that Tash, the problem is is that we see players wrestling each other in exactly the same way in every game and it’s ignored.
As Phil says it’s the inconsistencey that’s the issue.
I’ll guarantee there’ll be penalties not awarded and this penalty will be dragged up to ask why!

Speaking of penalties, what was the Newcastle one all about?? It looks like Burn runs slap bang into Bentancur, they both fall over holding each other, and a penalty is given against Bentancur?? How on earth have they come to that conclusion?

6'7" big Dan Burn is but a wall flower and wouldn't dare foul anyone. Must be a foul against him.

Clearly.

I agree.

Yes, Bentancur had got himself in a bit of an awkward position. But, I don't think he dragged Burn to the ground. Burn, a 6ft 7 athlete was trying to force his run into the box from the back, with players in front of him. There was inevitable contact, and despite the fact that Bentancur's left arm went around Burns back, it didn't really look like he dragged him down. It just looked like 2 players competing for the same space, and they both go down. What could Bentancur do, jump out of the way and give Burn a free run? Maybe had be kept his left arm out it would have saved him, but I doubt my instinct would react like that if a person of Burns side was trying to barge through me.

We'll see the same thing hundreds of times a season, and never see a penalty. I would seriously not be expecting a penalty if Bentancur did that to Maguire. I've seen Maguire go down many many times when the defender has challenged their space, often arms touch, and no penalty is given.

I think it was a classic case of at least sticking with the onfield decision, whichever way it goes.

I think when someone steams into you, you instinctively grab them to stop yourself from falling over. That's what it looked like to me. Honestly stupid that even with VAR they're still getting these wrong. It's the biggest part of why I no longer bother watching. I only watch the highlights the next morning and it still annoys me.

Bentancur at no stage was looking at the ball, or even towards the corner where it was taken from. He kept his eyes on Burn and then rugby tackled him. He didn't even pretend to be watching the ball. How can you defend when you are not following the ball?

I hate the way players grab each other in the box and it is never given as a foul.
On this occasion I think Burn runs into Bentacour who then grabs him and they end up grabbing each other.
It doesn’t help Bentacour that at no point does he look at the ball.
If you are giving that though it has to happen consistently which it doesn’t.
Give all of them and players stop grabbing each other and problem solved.
How many similar incidents happen tonight and nothing given?

Corners and long throws have become un-ref-able. It seems to be an inevitable consequence of the ungoing enshitification of professional sports for mathematically quantified marginal gains. We've had the development of the professional foul to an art form, rotating team fouls to break up play but avoid bookings, perpetual time wasting, feigning injury to allow mid-game team talks etc etc.
Every season it gets worse, watching games becomes more painful and less enjoyable. Football eats itself in its desperate desire to win at all costs.
I'm completely one-eyed/parochial, so I'm blaming Pep for turning it into a thing and Arteta for pursuing it to its inevitable conclusion.

His left arm gets caught around him, and then Dan Burn gets him in a headlock, which makes it a little bit more difficult to be watching the ball to be fair.
