Been watching the 2nd half since getting back from work. Been a one of the best performances I’ve seen from Arsenal this season and actually getting the ball into the Striker makes such a difference rather than their usually safe backwards play

Is the Champions League getting worse? I don’t recall teams scoring 6 or 7 goals in a match before. Has the expanded format lead to more one sided games that are purely for money before the real competition starts in the knockouts?

My point is that last night there seemed to be more than usual - which to me says the competition is getting weaker. As you had to go back 20 years for 1 of your examples then my point seems to be valid. 3 teams scoring 6 or more goals is not usual in europeDidn’t need to google it - remember it clearly

I remember Utd thrashed Roma 7-1, hammered Brondby (scored 6 i believe) and I also think they thrashed Feberbache when Rooney scored a hat trick on his debut.
No idea if the proportion of big wins is more or less than before. But assuming there are many more games now, it would def make sense we'll see a higher number of big wins, just like we'll see a higher number of 0-0's
But, there could still def be an element of a higher proportion of big wins now. The best teams have always been in it. But with more and more teams, the gap between biggest and worst sides could well be getting bigger. Thus, more big scores when teams with a big gulf play each other

Last night was an odd un. Of the 9 games last night, one was a 0-0. I have never heard of the team Inter beat. Watching Olympiacos last year, they were equivalent to a Division one team.
I certainly don’t think 5 sendings off helped to keep the score lines down. Watched City in the second half and could of fallen asleep
I suppose the jury is out on the present format, but I suppose it at least gives the “ smaller” clubs a few good paydays.

He looked like me with the ball at his feet. And for context, let’s just say my first touch wasn’t silky. Meaning I rarely got a second one.
I was privileged to be there that night. Unbelievable performance. People often ask me who the star performer was in that game, and are surprised by the response. Darren Fletcher. He was absolutely immense.
I’d love to have nights like that back again.

There were also big scoring games last season
Maybe in a single night it’s a rareity and that might be done to the fixtures landing where top team plays a lower level team
The format seems to allow teams to lose more matches and still qualifying so maybe some are a bit more relaxed

Stupid self-imposed rules. Obviously it resulted in a red card so I don't see why they wouldn't check it. Literally tying their own hands behind their backs.
