Surely it's up to the players to get the fans to play their part, not the other way round.
Atmosphere is about fans, surely? And is anyone really genuinely a fan of the England team?
Wanting them to do well is great, but that’s different to being a fan isn’t it? If tuchel wants 90 minutes of songs and chants and excitement surely he’s in the wrong job.
Short of smashing into challenges, that would be difficult for many nations like N Ireland. The football is often not pretty (thankfully not the case tonight, so far)Surely it's up to the players to get the fans to play their part, not the other way round.
Do other nations get similar poor atmospheres if they play in big stadiums (e.g. Wales?)
There are probably several reasons to explain it, but I generally find that the passion England fans express is much less than that of fans of many other nations. It could be the stadium, it good be fan expectations, etc. Not to say passionate England fans do not exist of course. And I suppose the atmosphere improves when England play home games on the road. Again, perhaps due to stadium itself. But I'd also imagine if England are making a rare appearance in another part of the country, many of the local England fans are more pumped up, and proud that the game is in their neck of the woods.
I have to disagree about the away fans being better. Not saying they don't have a lot of great away fans either.Wales switched from the Millenium to Cardiff's ground due to the empty seats and poor atmosphere. I think Scotland went on the road for a while when they were bad for the same reasons. It's only in the last 3-4 years Scotland have improved and started selling out Hampden more often.
England's away support is miles better than any other national team IMO. Both normal aways and at major tournaments. It's a different type of fan that travels though, more passionate. You're definitely spot on about when England go on the road, locals tend to turn up and back the team more. The best atmosphere I've ever experienced at an England home game was at Sunderland against Turkey. Amazing night that was!
You get it guaranteed tomorrow I thinkIs the Portugal vs ROI only as a PPV option?
I have a Prime membership!
If that’s true then he’s completely lost the plot! Going from Nuno who had them ticking and a definitive style, to Ange who also has a style (losing easily) to Dyche and his brand of try not to lose and nick it!
Maybe that’s why gerrard has turned rangers down, he’s waiting for his turn as forest managerIf that’s true then he’s completely lost the plot! Would seem to be taking things backwards not progressing the team if that’s true. There’s got to be better options than Dyche!
Could be and couldn’t be worse than Ange. The Nuno decision is definitely backfiring on Forest at the moment.Maybe that’s why gerrard has turned rangers down, he’s waiting for his turn as forest manager
It’s a real shame that countries scoring records are being held half decent players now all because of the increase of International friendlies and qualifiers against smaller nations
Holland have players like Cruyff , Van Basten , RVN in their history and yet it’s Depay who will hold their record
Agreed, but Depays goals per game is on par with the other top scorers for Holland.I think goals per game would be a better measure but set a qualifying criteria that it must be 20+ games. Pointless having a ratio if someone scored 4 goals in 4 games but never played again.

Issue is that there is a good amount of small countries where players can just feast on goals
Looking at Depays record
He has 4/5 goals against what you would class as top class opposition- ie Spain , Germany , France etc
I think it becomes subjective whatever. Do people actually think Depay is a better striker than Van Basten or RVN? The numbers alone don't tell the whole story, only part of it. It's why we shouldn't get overly excited by some of the statistics that get thrown out now. Caps won, goals scored, the numbers are different now to previous timesOk, what’s a better way to measure them? Bear in mind, if you start to give points per goal based on which country they were scored against it becomes a subjective not definitive metric…
Yeah, Cruyff really was up against it when facing really difficult opponents in his national career
