I wonder if Isak will get a release clause built into his Liverpool contract this time? Or, if Real Madrid or Barcelona come looking for him in a year or two, will he just refuse to play for Liverpool until the deal is done?

Refusing to play for the club that pays you seems to be the best scenario now for players, certainly the best players.

TF the Isak pantomime is over. Hadn't really considered how I'd feel when/if the deal went through but having read the news this morning my reaction was little more than...meh.

Now Newcastle can focus on re-building harmony and positivity within the club and now have a clear path forward, free of the fog created by Isak and his acolytes actions.

Get a couple of deals over the line for another forward and a defensive midfielder today and it will have been a fantastic window in terms of strengthening the squad depth. Get the new CEO and Sporting Director in place in the next month and then we can look to the future, learn from this debacle and ensure it never happens again.

Does he ? He seems to get a heck of a lot right

Yes, I would say in the last 6-12 months a larger-than-before percentage of his posts have been tabloid style gossip rather than stuff of genuine substance and of the high standard he used to put out. I don't believe I'm alone in that viewpoint. As hairball says, he's a tap in merchant with a lot of things though.

Looks like a fee has been agreed with Brentford for Wissa

I’m wondering if this could have all been sorted weeks ago

If Liverpool had offered £130m at the beginning, it probably would have been. There was a domino effect waiting to happen and Isak was the starting point. You went in low, Newcastle were never going to accept £110m, based on current transfer fees.

Donnarumma to City looks like it is happening. Stuffs Trafford. He could have been no 1 at Burnley or Newcastle, he is going to end up as no 2 at City.

Went in low with an opening offer and were told the conditions including “we need to get more players in” which they hadn’t managed.

All teams submit opening bids expecting to go higher. I’m not sure why this is a problem in this transfer?

My response was related to why this is happening on the last day of the window. It could have happened earlier but Liverpool chose to bid once at a low figure and then higher overnight. If they had followed up with a higher bid earlier it probably would have been over much sooner.

Every club wants best value, that isn't in dispute

They prob would have got to £130mil but Newcastle were adamant he wasn’t for sale so they didn’t bother

Donnarumma is very good but with his feet doesn’t suit Pep

Trafford - will enjoy the bench

And yet last night they did bother..........

The mood music was pretty clear, has been for a few weeks. If you had come back with a better offer he would have gone. I agree, at the beginning of the window he was not for sale but the player going on strike, being a posion within the club, that changes everything.

The club weren’t going to make any bid if Newcastle were very clear he wasn’t for sale and that was the message they were getting - it seemed clear they were only selling when they were getting someone in first

Things can change

Of course but Barcelona are a long way from being able to afford big signings without selling a lot of players

And we all know how Madrid work

We have been on the end of players wanting to get out of the club and it’s not nice , we just need to make sure now we are the club that is at the top of tree for many players
