None of our other flair players particularly stood out and the press love to have either a star or someone to blame.
The whole competition was won because of a great work ethic and a belief that despite what had gone on during the game we would find a way to win.
This is not a negative in any way, our main forward I think just scored once during the whole tournament but her energy and work rate allowed the team to squeeze forward and push the opposing team backward every game which worked great for around 70 minutes and that allowed the finishes to come on against a tired defence and punish them.

Chloe Kelly was the one (maybe alongside aguemong) that came on and made the difference.

The fact we allowed her to take all the set pieces also helped her, one game she put a corner straight out of play but apparently that was unlucky.

It’s a shame but comparisons with the men’s team just don’t work.
It’s like comparing apples with oranges

She might have been but it was an awful effort. I would be very surprised if she was not given a right telling off about it in the next training session.

We've spent years moaning about the men's team who are so scared of failure that none of them are prepared to take a chance.
Personally, I think good on the manager for encouraging them to try stuff.

I doubt that one of the tactics the manager advised was if you are 1-0 down in the semi final try and score direct from a corner.
And if it was it is just another example of how the woman’s game cannot compare to the men’s

Who's comparing it to the mens game?
All thats been said is that Kelly put every effort into the game, which is something a few of the women and many men could do.

I think the women's game has improved so much over the last few years.
They play at a high standard now and generally get on with it without all the play acting.

Rich compared it to the men’s game in his last comment which I responded to.
I’m not knocking anyone the ladies achievements are fantastic, but it’s not the same level as the men’s game (understandably so).

I agree that it has improved beyond measure.
I watched a lot of the Euros and enjoyed it immensely.
I think trying to compare it to men’s football is like comparing apples and oranges though

Yes, the womens game is a little different to the mens, just as Womens rugby is a little different to the mens. But in each sport the women own it with their efforts and techincal adjustments of how to play the game. They also put a huge effort in and (in general) do just get on with it (which sadly the womens referring could take on board as well).

I agree with you. I am not knocking the women, they have done brilliantly but they deserve better than to be compared to the men.
It is a sport in its own right and being different to the men should be a positive.

I'm certainly not comparing the women's game to the men's. There just is no comparison.

The only comparison is the women's game 5-10 years ago to now.

BS.
I did not compare the standard of the women's game to that of the men's game.
I bemoaned the dull caution of the men's team and praised the women's manager's obvious support for attacking creativity by her players.
They've just defended the European Championship ffs. What are some people banging on about?

The women’s game now compared to 10 years ago is a different beast. For me the improvement in goalkeeping is the main improvement but across the pitch everyone has improved.
Obviously they (mostly defenders) cannot clear the ball 80 yards up the pitch so the play to get the ball up the pitch with passing and movement has increased beyond measure and for me should be used for children of all ages as a yardstick.
Also it appears we have improved faster/better than a lot of our rivals which is great to see

Please don’t call me out on bs when this is what you said.

Not of the standard of football, no. It was a positive comment about Sarena Wiegman.
You seem to have used that to justify comparing women's football negatively to men's.
Therefore, BS.

I didn’t say you compared the standard of football. I said you made a comparison. Which you clearly did and of course you are entitled to.
I responded to that and you then said you didn’t make a comparison and I was talking bs. I feel I have proven I am not talking bs so will leave it there.
I feel you could of been a little more polite.
It’s great we don’t always agree and we should be able to discuss things without being rude, no need to apologise and catch up soon.
👍

Always amuses me when people throw in the mens game, and almost use it as a stick to take down the women's game.

Sure, biology means the men would beat the women head to head. But, it is a completely pointless argument, as that is the same in nearly all sports. It is why there are gender categories.

Take that argument away, the simple fact is that the ladies were quality. In terms of movement, ball control, passing, crossing, finishing and tackling, they execute it all just as well as I see week in, week out from the men, from a technical point of view. It is almost like they are professional athletes...

And we've all seen the men make garbage mistakes and terrible decisions, even the best men. I'm sure I've seen men try and score from corners at crucial times, and failed. So, if the moment Kelly failed to score from a corner is the moment that proves there is no comparison between the men and women, it is a terribly week argument.

I'd have thought it would be better to focus on all the incidents she got right. Concluded nicely with that penalty. Lots of pressure, millions watching, knowing that if she missed the likes of Joey Barton were ready to mock the women's ability to hit a penalty, forgetting all the horrific penalties from men over the years.

If anyone is interested in Googling John Bishops online gig comments about Englands women winning it is well worth a look.Very funny and very apt. Not possible to post on here due to Johns language. 👍
