I remember years ago (unless I'm remembering it wrong) - the Club World Cup was just a straight knock-out, and the European champions didn't enter it until a bit later in the draw (kind of like the FA Cup). That's the perfect format for it in my opinion. The lesser continents can battle it out in the early rounds, then have the South Americans come into it in round 2, then the European sides after that. At least then they only have to play a couple of knock-out rounds and that's it. Currently it feels like it took an entire month to complete, and the week was just a waste of time with Australasian and Asian teams getting spanked.

You’re forgetting the old format didn’t make FIFA enough money. Which is why it was completely necessary to change it. FIFA are hard done by and we need to feel sorry for them.

And the clubs that are invited to it are typically financially very badly off, so the war chest they receive from it is invaluable.

Take poor Chelsea for example. They've been forced to sell hotels and their women's team to themselves - all to make ends meet. The £100m or so they bank from the CWC can be put to fine use as they try to strengthen their thinning squad over the summer transfer window - something they simply haven't been able to do up until now.

I think the fact Pedro came off his holiday, played 2 games and got 3 goals sums this tinpot event up.

I don't think you could dream up a worse event to promote football.

Empty seats bar the big games
No atmosphere except a small section of travelling fans
Terrible pitches
Climate too hot to play serious football
Second rate winners in Chelsea

Get this format in the bin.
Summed up perfectly, only thing I would add is that Wenger supporting this and saying it was a great success just shows that he has no integrity, I thought he was better than that.

The funny thing is they are still having a yearly Intercontinental cup so PSG will play again over Xmas against the Copa winner

And Chelsea don’t qualify for the next Club World Cup

It feels that way because that it actually did take a month to complete :ROFLMAO:

Other clubs are now starting their pre-seasons, whilst clubs like Chelsea have only just finished last season. We have finally hit that moment that there will be football played by top clubs every single week of the calendar. The next critical point will be when we have competitive games every single week in the calendar (not quite happened yet, as it is friendlies the next few weeks)

Grealish was at Villa's pre-season before his move to City... don't get your hopes up!

Oh I’m certainly not. I am refraining from saying anything much on this one until I see how it pans out.

But don’t forget, we are talking about bat-s***-crazy Nottingham Forest here. Imagine every scenario you can think of now and it’s equally possible that something else will happen! 🤣🤣🤣

I think you sell MGW, then buy Jack Grealish. The world can not wait to see real Jack Grealish and pretend Jack Grealish on the same team. They could mess with ref, commentators, switch shirts. Loads of possibilities there 😂

Look am a City fan and I thought the format as wrong. We got in coz we were the world club champions. But this comp had City and Chelsea who were 3rd and 4th in the league and the prem league champs Liverpool never got a sniff. So the winners of the biggest financial League in the world are not there. 😳
FIFA under Infantino is poison. And he makes Blatter look like Goldilocks.
I was serious when I said Chelsea have put Infantinos nose out of joint because I am sure he was praying for a Madrid PSG final from the outset.
Am all for a world club comp comp. But the best teams in the world need to be in it. And it certainly should not be played when players health and lives are at risk.

Nope Wenger had always been a tit. He is a modern Day Platini. And Google how that went. Wenger wants a piece of the FIFA cash pie.

I’ve seen so many Palace fans on Twitter today blaming Forest and Marinakis for their plight with UEFA. I’m assuming by this comment you’re one of them too?
Nope not blaming Forest. It is UEFA we have the issue with and possibly our own board if we find out they were at fault at the end of this.

I'll be honest, my feelings about your owner have existed way before this, some logical and some pretty random:

First time I saw him I thought 'dodgy'. The way he went about smashing the PSR rules when you got promoted. The treatment at times of Cooper. The treatment at times of Nuno (the pitch rant says it all for me), the way he has apparently behaved over the spurs / MGW thing, the way he has apparently behaved once he learnt he may be able to get Forest into our place in the Europa and finally, he still looks dodgy. That's what I don't like about him (not the club)

A lot of Palace fans are also hurting that we have been kicked out for duel ownership, when Textor did not have full or influence control and was in fact selling for that very reason. Parish has the final say on all things, despite holding a 10% stake. Its the way he has set it up, to protect us from a potential crook. To lose the place to a man who obviously has controlling interest in 2 clubs (at least) is a hard one to take. The blind trust is lets face it, a farce. How can Marinakis claim he has no controlling influence on Forest when he sits up in the stand like jabba the hut and then storms onto the pitch to confront the manager.......of a club he has no influence over.......

His welcome to South London on the 1st home game will be lively at this rate!

There is no doubt that any “blind trust” is just a token farce and that owners will continue to have influence

So the lad who slapped Grealish after the Manc Derby had pleaded guilty and been fined. Utd have taken his season ticket off him. For me it would have been a more fitting punishment if they had made him keep it. But this bit is the bit that has really gripped my 💩 poo.
Quote.
The court heard fines could not be deducted from Holt's Personal Independence Payments, so his parents, who he lives with, agreed to pay them in full within 28 days.
😳
What the bloody hell. He gets PIP and can afford a season ticket. Why is/was my tax going towards a season ticket at the swamp 🤬
