Get were you are coming from, although I wouldn't be as overly critical on those people. I think it is just their way of saying "from a rival fan, you have my full support and sending all our love, rivalries only go so far". Not all fans are overly articulate

I just hope there are no really vile, nasty comments. But, I've no doubt there are, in the cesspool of social media. Such a shocking thing to happen, and it doesn't lessen as the news sinks in. I've no doubt the overwhelming feeling amongst fans of all football clubs is one of sympathy, love and support to Jota's family, friends, LFC and Portugal.

There's already a few edge lords that feel the need to make jokes to justify their own sad existence. Scumbags the lot of them.

That is a real sickener on so many levels.

Feel real sadness for his parents, his wife, his kids, his friends, his teammates and all the fans who watched him throughout his career.

Fantastic player who kept a low profile and let his goals and trophies do the talking.

Life isn't fair at times.

When Marc Vivian Foe died. He was on loan at City from West Ham. He was absolutely massive for City. I was devastated when he died. I hardly saw him play. He was the nearest thing we had to YAYA Toure.
When he died City retired his shirt. Number 23.
It would be a fitting tribute for Liverpool to do the same.
I hope they do.

Just goes to highlight how fragile life is, as - no matter how wealthy, successful or popular any of us might be - we are all susceptible to the same cruel twists of fate. Live life today - without resentments and angers from the past or fears of the future...we are unable to see around the corner of life.

Absolutely disgusting that the police and Arsenal and their lawyers have apparently agreed on the timing of this charge and that Arsenal FC stood by this player when they knew the charge was coming.

They could have won the league or even the champions league with this very good player im their team. They have not given a 75m rated footballer a new contract for one reason, they suspected he was going to be charged and likely found guilty.

I wonder what the Premier League will do to Arsenal, a league that shouts so much about equality and the Woman's game but allows a suspected rapist to play on for a club.

And then we win the fa cup but face losing out on Europe due to a technical matter. Sickening, disgusting and all things too common with football at the very top level.

Modern football summed up, some fans happy to see greenwood return. No thanks. Never want to see him given any chance of getting a career back in this country or playing for England.

Not very happy that clubs are banging the moral stick in football. Yet supporting this.
As long as we don’t forget that it is City’s Job to ruin football coz they spent to much money.
Like I have said before. There’s no wonder people are switching off from football. 😡

Hmmm. You might want to Google abuse of process before leaping to conclusions. I think it highly unlikely that the CPS, as it is not the police who authorise charges relating to rape anyway, would delay charges in a very serious matter such as this just because it might interfere with a contract between a club and player.

EDIT: The following sums it up in a nutshell - in criminal law, abuse of process can occur when the prosecution acts in a way that undermines the fairness of the trial, such as intentionally delaying the proceedings.

So it’s certainly not happening just to give a football club an advantage by retaining a player’s services for a period so that they can have a better chance of winning something!

Staggering that you have managed to turn around a situation regarding a footballer arrested for rape to bringing in city

They charged him 3 days after his contract expired. The accusations and his own WhatsApps which we're shared years ago are pretty bad. Why the long wait, why no new contract agreed with a regular starter in a top 6 side or alternatively no contract signed with another club......make your own mind up but its pretty clear to me!

That’s a proper conspiracy theory if ever I heard one!

All I’m saying is that the CPS are not going to risk a potential prosecution for multiple rape by being in cahoots with a football club’s lawyers. It’s blatantly an abuse of process and, with respect, the suggestion is laughable.

I agree.
But it is mental how after all the rumours,he finally gets charged 1 week after his contract ends.

Also worth noting that he’s not been found guilty yet.
