Anyone who watches footy will tell you that’s miles off.

Stills can confuse things.
I agree it is "miles off" in the instant the ball is played (or at least clearly off, miles is a bit subjective). The lineswomen would say the same looking at that still picture. There is clearly zero argument, it is way offside, no debate.

What I was saying, watching it live, it isn't necessarily clearly offside because the picture changes drastically a fraction of a second earlier and later. There are plenty of occasions where I've seen something live (with the advantage of seeing it from a broadcasting widescreen camera) and felt it was miles offside, just like the commentators. Then they show a replay, turns out it was onside.

So, to me, it is silly to judge a lineperson by a single incident that ended up being controversial, using a still picture, when there have been many similar scenarios in the past where the instinctive feeling has turned out to be wrong.

Why would he sign a contract he didn't want to sign and intended to breach in the hope that another club would buy him out of it when he could do what he has done?
He has done nothing wrong, legally or morally. Some football fans' view of the situation is incomprehensibly skewed.

Because some players that want to leave a club sign and extension and add in a release clause to ensure the club get a nominal fee

No one has said he hasn’t done anything wrong legally

But there will be some fans that believe he could have handle the situation better and be more upfront with the fans from last summer and that’s why for some there is a negative feeling towards the way he and his brother have handled things

But it’s done - he will be at Madrid and we will see what the potential new players will be like

I’m sure there will be the next one the list soon enough

Guess for some with him being a local lad and has said a lot of stuff about the club it’s going to be a tough to swallow

When it comes to football, I feel a players contract is now just an agreement saying how much they will be paid each week, and gives the club some leverage in the form of a transfer fee if another club comes in for the player.
When you look at the sums paid now to the PL players, it’s difficult to feel sorry for many of the players when it comes to money, especially when you consider the amount they are paid on average is more than the average wage earner earns in a lifetime.
I agree. But if it's hard to feel sorry for mercenaries then surely it's just as hard to feel sorry for organisations that employ mercenaries.
He's been there since he was 6. Considering how institutionalised he must be it's impressive that he's managed to see an exit.

Players do it and add in a release clause

If he didn’t see a future with the club last summer then that imo is the time to tell the club so that they can look at the options - not wait imo until March time , his agent was still “negotiating” with the club with contracts being offered to the player until March

But it’s all part of the game these days

All subjective now as he will be gone from the 1st July and hopefully we will have Frimpong in by then 😁
You are still presenting your argument as if you know exactly the thoughts of TAA a year ago, and expressing what he should have done. How do you know exactly what TAA wanted a year ago?

When did he first find out Madrid were interested? Let's assume it was a year ago, and let's assume that this was something he was very interested in. That still doesn't mean he was 100% certain that is what he would want. Perhaps he felt that this is what he wanted, but he was waying up the pros and cons of staying and leaving. Maybe some days he was adamant he wanted to go to Madrid. Other days he may have felt it would be better to stay at Liverpool. Ongoing contract discussions, form of both clubs, his own form, lifestyle choices, etc may have shifted his view from day to day, week to week.. A few months ago, he may still have had a feeling in his head he may prefer to stay at Liverpool.

However, he could have ultimately come to his final decision a short time ago, and then quickly released his announcement. To me, there is no evidence that he was 100% certain that he would leave a year ago.

At least he didn’t go to Man Utd 😂

So he stays just above Owen in that respect 😂

It’s a ruthless sport with potential short careers and they will look out for themselves

But fans throw themselves into it with heart and soul etc so at times the reaction will be a bit over emotional and Liverpool fans get connected to players too easily at times and even more so a young scouser that they have seen grow up

Maybe they shouldn’t get too connected

But I’m not going to tell someone how they should feel about a player or how they want to react - it’s their choice

We have seen for years how some fans react to players going to other clubs - Campbell to Arsenal , Rice to Arsenal, Cole to Chelsea , Tevez to City - it rarely sits well

Yep. Football fans are so emotive to the point of delusion. It's daft.

I think (assuming TAA is the subject) he was always going there once his mate Jude went there. Having said that, for the reported £850k a week he will be paid...who wouldnt.
Sadly he can't use the "want to win something", so its really is just money. But who can blame him.

It isn't necessarily "just money".

He has won the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup and Champions League with Liverpool. He could stay and try to compete for more trophies at Liverpool, but maybe he thinks he has been there, done that and it would be more exciting to try and win other trophies at another club? Perhaps he wanted to a different lifestyle in a sunny European City? And, you mentioned another one, perhaps he wanted to play with his mate Jude, whilst also motivated in playing with the likes of Mbappe. And, I'm not sure about his relationship with Slot, but maybe he felt he wanted a different challenge with a different manager. No idea if he knew the likelihood of the next manager at Madrid when he made his final decision.

There seem to be plenty of reasons to decide to go to Madrid other than money. Money would just be another pull factor. I doubt he'd have gone to Saudi Arabia if they had offered him a bit more

My team has this player, we bought him about 3 years ago. He didn’t hit it off and we tried to offload him, loaning him out every (half) year and the fans being annoyed he comes back. This year we could not give him away.

Somehow he managed to get into the squad and also got some end of game minutes. About 10 weeks ago he scored an important goal, the week after he scored another goal.
A couple of weeks later he started and started 6 times in a row. He says he likes being here and could imagine extending his contract, a couple of weeks later he got a bigger offer and decides to leave.

The fans are angry that the club low balled the guy, they are angry that the guy followed the money after saying he likes it here, …

What’s the club going to do? Give a massive contract to a player who underperformed for years and then scores a couple of goals, but nothing since?

What’s the player going to do, say he hates it here and then doesn’t get an offer and is nowhere? Or taking a much lower offer in a club that shipped him out to lower leagues a couple of times and tries to ditch him last August.

At least he didn’t get booed the last couple of weeks. Apparently it’s the clubs fault he left for a free transfer.

Copa Italia Final between AC Milan and Bologna just kicked off just up,the road from us one the Stadio Olympico and so I’m heading out from our accommodation in central Rome to find a bar showing the match…Mrs SILH is knackered with all the walking we did this afternoon…and that after a 5:30am depart from home this morning.

It always staggers me how much Bob Paisley is disrespected in these

14 trophies in 9 seasons

6 league titles

3 European Cups

3 League Cups

UEFA Cup and Super Cup

His record is superior than a good amount above him

Sorry to interupt but the takeover has officially been completed and we're free of the previous owner 🙌

In his 8 years at the club he spent over £100m, largely on utter crap after being hoodwinked by agents
Had a wage to turnover ratio of 240%, one of the highest ever recorded in English football
Caused the club to have a 5 year transfer embargo
Sold the stadium to himself then rented it back to the club for £1.5m a season
Sold any decent player for peanuts to fund the club as he pulled the plug years ago
Caused us to become the only club in England to have points deductions 3 seasons in a row
Turned us from a top Championship side to mid table in League One
Took the Women's team from the Super League to amateurs in the 6th tier

The only decent thing he did was spend £50m on a training ground and invest in the academy, which produced the likes of Olise and Gittens. Both of whom were allowed to leave for a fraction of their real value though. A sickener as they're worth over £100m combined now.

The new owner has purchased the club, stadium and training ground, so it's back together finally. Not getting carried away but it will be nice to try and build something for the future and not worry about the club going under!

Thrilled for Reading FC to hear this. Good riddance to Yongge. 🖕

Hope you guys can regroup, rebuild and climb back up the footballing tier. 👍

That’s ridiculous Paisleys should be in the top 5.

Good to see Bella Guttmann get some recognition, he was truly ahead of his time and should be higher up the list.
