@Billysboots I'm a big fan of Mateta. If he is available for £40m then I'd expect a few to throw their hat in for him.

As attractive as Utd used to be for incoming players, is that still the case? I’m inclined to say yes to the vast majority but I can’t see a top star going there.

No CL football, appearing like a club without a clear plan and surrounded by some very average players. It might need a few decent players to go there and for there to be an obvious improvement before stars might consider it.

The club is too big to languish forever but…. When….

£40mil ?

That seems very cheap

At that price can see a number of clubs looking at him

Would suspect also Man Utd would need to offload a lot of their deadwood first due to PSR issues
One of the rumours there is Mainoo leaving. Pure profit so good for the books.

Somewhat ironic, and grim, is that one of the things coming out of financial fair play is clubs selling the youngsters they've brought through. Surely one of those unintended consequences that happens.

The problem with deadwood is that very few other teams want them either. Certainly not on inflated wages. All clubs have had that issue over the years, Everton certainly suffered for a while, but it is definitely utd's turn to pay the price right now.

Totally agree. Players will go there for big wages but the lure of Utd as a major player isn't there right now. If you were an agent and you had choices, you'd direct your player elsewhere. Mateta, for example, will surely have better options.

He is an interesting one

Contract until 2027 , wanting a huge wage increase but so far needs to prove himself over more than just half a season

Did read silly fees like £90 mil for him - madness

He needs to prove he deserves the silly wages he is apparently asking for

Wages is the one thing that will always be able to attract the players and looking at what they threw at the likes of Casemiro then you can see why players have gone there

But with Ratcliffe cutting costs all over the place I’m not sure if they will offer the big fees

It’s going to be a very tough summer for Man Utd

Mainoo is looking increasingly unhappy and, whilst there have been some injury issues, he hasn’t kicked on from last season, either under ten Hag or Amorim.

And Garnacho just gets more stroppy by the week - I’ve been saying for some time, he’s morphing into Rashford. I actually question where he will play in a 3-4-3 because that system doesn’t require wingers, and he’s most effective out wide.

I think one or both of those will be gone in the summer, in addition to Rashford. And such sales will free up a considerable sum to allow Amorim to build his own squad.

It’s been said here times, Amorim has a free hit this season, because he made absolutely no secret of his preference to come in the summer. So he can use every poor performance, as they rack up, to illustrate to those holding the purse strings that the playing staff needs a complete overhaul.

But that means United have to have the strength in their convictions and stick with him. The club can’t spend tens of millions more building a squad ill suited to yet another manager.

The BBC had it that he had refused the new contrac5 UTD had put to him

No one, but no one if paying that for him. At the moment he's a £25m player. He would have been more last summer but this year........

To be fair to his agent, if he looks at the other midfielders there and knows what they are getting paid, why wouldn't you ask for more?

Hmmm. He’s already an international footballer at a very young age. He might not have set the world alight this season, but he’ll go for more than that.

It’s prob close to somewhere in the middle

Lots of potential and he had a very good end of the season last season so that’s still in the memories

He does look a good player but think somewhere around £40-45mil

Same for Garnacho as well

And will prob get around that for Rashford as well

Can’t blame him for asking for more basic wage when he does look at others

The summer is a huge time for the club

I do worry about the apparent inflexibility of Amorin , there are some quality players at the club but failing to get a tune out of them

Is he going to do what ETH did and bring in the players that he worked well with at his previous club ?

You could prob look at replacing double figure amount of players

Okay, £25-40m. I'm not sure why clubs would pay more based on this season. Which is the real player? This year or last? He doesn't have enough games behind him to confirm which way he will go at this point.

I hope he returns back to his previous form, obviously not at Utd 😄. It's always good to see young talent coming through.

HUUUGE three points for Forest there! Come on! ✊✊✊
If you had asked me before the game how it would go, it would be along the lines of this.Forest organised, City playing out slow from the back. Both wingers double teamed. Haaland getting no support. Desperate balls pumped into the box for one man. One goal winning the game. The goal coming from City being three at the back putting a man into the middle and playing over the top.
A massive three well earned points for the tricky trees.

He's looked a threat for Palace in the last 18 months but his career was fairly average up until the age of 26. He's got no pedigree and he'll be 28 in the summer which means he'll have almost no resale value after the 3/4 year deal ends. I think £40m is about right.
